Mirror configuration?

Hey everyone, newbie Bobby here with a question about mirrors.

This might seem like a dumb inquiry but I see a lot of riders with bar end mirrors or mirrors flipped down below the handlebars. Can anyone explain the pros/cons of different mirror configurations and/or why you have your mirrors the way you do?

Thanks guys!

If you have ape hangers or high bars, or if you have a cafe and spend a lot of time in a tuck, mirrors under makes more sense from the angles you'll be using the mirrors. Basically, put them wherever gives you the best view for you. I'm still running mirrors over on my Dyna with 12" risers because I care less about looks than mirror functionality.

Bar end mirrors are generally done for looks. That's why I did it for the bike below. You have to move your line of sight way further out of your direction of travel to use them and generally they're smaller, so you can't see as much in them. But you have to admit that the bike looks "cooler" without a couple of mirrors sticking up above everything else. :cool

I'm planning to try mirrors mounted below the bars inside the controls on my Ducati in hopes I'll have better luck looking under my armpits than I currently do staring at my elbows with the stock setup. Only concern is whether I can do this without having them hit the tank. Never really wanted bar en mirrors as I like a narrow profile for splitting when needed.

I really like the bar and mirrors on this thrasher bike. When riding the Isle of Mines I like to be able to see behind me so I can move over when the racer boys are ready to pass me up. They are functional.

I run bar ends on the scrambler, for the same reason I hate the bug antenna look.
Can't see past my elbows.

I saw a Harley with one of those mini fairings, where he had the mirrors bar end and dropping, so as to be hidden by the fairing. It was a good look and fairly clever.

I too like the look of bar end mirrors, but I prefer the utility of bug antennas.

Why not both?
