Metcalf Re-Opening

Just in case anyone is wondering here's the 411 at Metcalf Right now from their facebook group ain't gonna be like old times for a while:

Hello All,

Rangers at Metcalf have not been working at the park during this COVID Order. We have been assigned to work at other parks with high visitation rates to help our department.

With the new county order loosening restrictions on recreation we are back at Metcalf preparing to open... When?... We do not have a date yet from our department. But what we do know is that there will be reservations required to use the park. Visitors will not be able to pay on site and fee collection/ waiver forms will be part of the reservations system. Even if you have an annual pass a reservation is needed to reserve your parking space. This protocol will be best for social distancing between visitors with each other as well as with our staff.

All vehicles who do not have a reservations unfortunately will be turned away. Reservations cannot be made at the office, only through the website.

Thank you for your patients and understand we are doing our best to get the park back open while practicing the safest COVID protocols as possible. We will post the reservation link as soon as it is up on our County Parks page.

Would they turn away a non-reservationed family looking to ride if there were an empty parking lot and/or no current reservations?

Curious how they're going to handle reservation times. Like, if I was going to head up there for an hour or two, does that mean I need to reserve a spot for all day? Seems like a waste.

Hopefully they can give you an idea of when they will open under the new guidelines. Hadn't heard that June 7th date about Hollister so that is good news.

Nothing official of course but here it is take it for what it's worth. The event they are referring to is 4x4 but it says the park June 7th. No red stickers so less people. We will see what happens

I rode there yesterday. It was a bit warm. I had to share the trails with no one.
it was rather enjoyable.

The MX track has seen little use since last grooming. Heck, since the closure. There are weeds growing on it. Dirt on the track is nice and soft. With some moisture it would be hero dirt.

You have to reserve and sign a waiver, the link is in their website. You reserve for your entry time only, once you are in you can stay as long as you want. Pay in advance during the reservation process. Entry reservations are in one hour blocks starting from 8:00-9:00 AM and the last reservation. Is 11:00-Noon. Afaik you cannot make an afternoon reservation

It was very strange to see the trails all overgrown. I went through several cobwebs on Big Creek, almost got lost on T3, and a saw a rattlesnake eating a rabbit.

It was at the entrance to Snake trail, makes me wonder if they named that trail because lots of snakes live on that hill.

I dunno if you remember that one time I rode Horseshoe w/ you. I think I've done every other trail since, I still have been avoiding that one :p,

Really? Horseshoe and the first finger have some of the coolest turns in the park. Then Snake, then Grewsome Gary.

I made an on line reservation this morning. Last week I did it on the phone. I came across some coding errors this morning. You good programmers out there, and you know who you are, are expensive.

Was there 2 weeks ago, we made the reservation and showed up 30 minutes late from their 2 hour window but they still let us come thru (3 bikes on the trailer). Almost had all the trails to ourselves it was great.

BUT! They disabled the water fountains for COVID. They have NO water to give out. So bring plenty cause it's been hot.

I had to take evasive action to miss a rattlesnake on Big Manzanita on Monday.

Lovely day at the park.
