Medical Marijuana

So, we've got a thread on recreational marijuana, how about medical marijuana? My wife has chronic back pain, hip pain, and knee pain - mostly from arthritis, and joint deterioration. Her doctor has her on a low dose of morphine to control the pain, but it doesn't work very well, and actually has an adverse affect when mixed with other meds she takes for other issues. She's actually in the hospital right now after having a drastic issue caused by the morphine, along with a massive infection in her bladder and/or colon. Try blood pressure of 67/35 and a white blood cell count of 28,000 for instance: caused quite the reaction at the ER Tuesday night!

Anyway, she's thinking about trying MM at the urging of some friends, and we've been doing some research. We know that if she gets the stuff with CBD, and no THC, then she won't be getting high, and it won't show up on blood tests, but does anyone have any recommendations on what would work to block serious chronic pain?

You can readily buy the CBD cream OTC.
Should be worth a try.

Smoking does wonders for aches and pain when you are just hanging around the house.
Edibles are better than smoking, if you don’t have to operate machinery.

I have had good pain management with a CBD tincture under the tongue. A couple drops is all that’s usually needed. It’s gotten me off of opioids for chronic sciatic pain.

I've not tried CBD but want to. I grow my own weed and I don't use pesticides but do use nutrients and I flush at the end so it's guaranteed less chemically than whatever you buy. My friend and I have chronic pain (nothing like your wife in my case, but my friend is on painkillers all the time) and she finds marijuana certainly takes away the pain.

WHen she ate my weed food she was pain free for 20 hours but also pretty high :)

I've been wanting to my heavily concentrated oil, I have the equipment now but you need like 2-3 oz of flower and that's a lot of money

I am going to add 2-3 oz of flowers to my Magical Butter, add about 1L of pure grain alcohol like Everclear and then let it cook for a few hours. Then I will strain the flowers and put that liquid in my electric air still to "distill" out the alcohol which can be re-used (as opposed to cooking off slowly). Then you're left with a thick oil. This is what the believers use to treat cancer patients...they take a little oil 3x a day.

Cook in the magical butter at temps well below combustion :)

It's not an open flame. This isn't like cooking butane extract which is incredibly explosive and dangerous. They pack a glass turkey baster full of the dope, run a few cans of butane, and then cook off most of it before vacuum sealing to remove the rest of the butane.

I have some home made coconut oil. If you and your wife would like to experiment with it. Turn it into a topical, cook with it. I would also be happy to bake her some edibles of her choice.:smoking

By OTC I assume it's NOT something one can walk into Walgreens and find? Any suggestions for South Bay outlets that are reasonable?

She doesn't want to smoke, or eat it - her Kaiser doctor has already told her that if they see any of it in her blood they'll stop all her current meds and that would be disastrous for her! Her main issues are bulging discs at L4 and L5, causing sciatica, both hips are bone-on-bone and her right knee is almost bone-on-bone - she had her left knee replaced about 10 years ago and it never did make it to a pain-free condition.

Can you recommend a brand, and where to get it in the South Bay?

Is that just coconut oil, or does it have the CBD already mixed in? If it's just oil what would we need to turn it into a topical?

We're old fogeys and aren't up on all this "alternative" medicine stuff! Thanks for all the help!

Hi Alan. It's a real shame that her doctor is so anti medical marijuana. Opiates are gross. I don't tolerate them well.

Like I mentioned, the Papa + Barkley products have been great for my aches and pains. They have bath salts, rubs, pain patches and massage oil. There's a few spots in SJ to get their products: https://www.papaandbarkley.com/store-locator/

Another company that specializes in cbd products is care by design, website here: https://www.cbd.org/. They have rubs for pain and chocolates that your wife could eat. I like the papa & barkley stuff better but that's a personal preference.

Cheeba chews also offer a pure cbd candy. http://cheebachews.com/california/purecbd-chocolate-taffy-recreational/

Please be sure that whatever edibles you are getting is pure CBD, only. Sometimes they come mixed in various ratios, like 3:1, etc, that are a mix of THC and CBD. Read labels carefully.

Here's a bar I like from CaliGold: http://www.caligoldbars.com/product/cbd-isolate-dark-choholate/?age-verified=72b2409634

Kiva is another quality CBD chocolate bar producer.

Good luck and let us know if it helps her.

Kaiser shitting on the Hippocratic oath. No surprise there.

OP, I have a friend who makes CBD topical creams for chronic pain. He uses solid crystalline CBD sourced from Switzerland, no oils, so there is no detectable THC. Availability is unfortunately spotty, but if you like I’ll reach out to him and see if he can send any your way.

What's weird is that my doc at Kaiser is totally in favor of medical MJ.
