Repsol and Honda finally have a Spanish champion to rep their brands in Spain. Oh what...

I don't see the upside. Alex is not Marc and he's not Fabio Quartararo either. I don't see AM73 as being on the same level as the upper three-fourths (or more) of the MotoGP grid. Sponsors don't get anything they don't already have with Marc, unless hiring Alex really was some kind of demand from Marc.

However, my crystal ball is usually wrong so I probably just guaranteed HRC a 1-2 in the championship next season. :laughing

I don't see the upside.

Upside is HRC gets to keep Marc. Otherwise it's entirely possible he would give them the finger the next year and walk next door and offer the same deal to Gigi, him and his brother in the factory team, and Gigi would of course agree to his terms right on the spot. HRC knows this. They also know how bad it will look for them if Marc were to leave and they're instantly nowhere in the championship because no one else can ride that piece of shit. Alex will have about as much success on that bike as Tito did. HRC don't care, they have to keep Marc.

The only good thing about this is we will finally get to see the talent disparity between the brothers. Any success AM has I will blindly attribute to MM's coaching.

Zarco was never going to get the Repsol ride. Repsol is for winners not quitters! Off to Moto2 with you, you overrated Frenchie hack scrub. Don't let the KTM hit you on the way off the grid. The only thing french I want to see in a MotoGP paddock (other than Quartararo) are kisses in the Repsol garage.

Here's my prediction: AM will last the one year. He'll maybe end up top five, certainly top ten at the end of 2020. Then Honda's going to have to decide what to do all over again. Unless they just want another almost fast rider.

I’m stoked on this news. I want to see AM win the ‘ship next year with MM in second.

I’m afraid of a negative impact on their relationship. What experience do the Marquez brothers have directly competing against each other? Maybe they take turns winning and leaving the rest of the field to fight over the remaining podium spot.

"We gave your Bro a shot Bro. Turns out he is the slow Bro, Bro'".
A one year deal to appease big Bro.

I honestly think Jack Miller would be a good #2 on a Repsol.

Indeed... Miller is showing his talent. Beating Dovi and smooshing Petrux that last few rounds is really solid. :thumbup

Fat chance imo Bro. :laughing

Whatever that means
The best no2 for Repsol I think would be Pol Espargaro or Aleix Espargaro.

I don't think AM is a bad rider by any means but i don't think he has quite the raw, freakish talent the MM seems to. Maybe MM's mentorship will help.

Hopefully we don't end up seeing a lot of this:

Alex is not Marc and he's not Fabio Quartararo either.
Consider at this exact point last season -- did you consider Fabio the way you do now?
Alex is a very solid rider, but does seem to make unforced errors. Not sure how he'll do next year, but I expect him to finish higher than Binder, who no one seems to think wasn't a good promotion. Yes I know KTM is not HRC, but HRC isn't trying to foster two possible champions when they have a lock on it with one.

Loved the look on Puig's face as he was trying to fend off journalists asking "why Alex"? He looked as comfortable trying to explain it as if he was having a prostate exam at the same time. Fuckin' politics, man :twofinger

This is a bad move for Repsol. They are going to get shitty data for Marc from Alex. The two brother's riding styles couldnt be more different.

Also, Julia Marquez is going to have to start crossing his toes and his fingers during races now :laughing

Not as fast as I look.

Good points. It might have been Dad that really pushed it. He is all over those pits. I can't imagine having my ego fed by two sons like that.

That is a good thought. He would be like Nicky Hayden was to Pedrosa? (I think Nicky got screwed, b-t-w.)

While I am seriously concerned that Marc will alter his style to help his brother, I can see an upside for the MM campaign. His little brother can block like a pulling guard and let MM ride away. Not only does this save on MM crashes, and roughing up other riders, but it gives all the MM haters a great excuse for when Marc wins. "His brother cheated." Etc. Etc. :thumbup

Edit: Typo Nicky's name. Sorry 69.

I like it because it’s just plain old entertaining. The only rider out there who looks like he could maybe compete with MM is Quartararo, so it’s not like there are other might-win-the-championship options. Having the brothers in GP together is a fun storyline to watch, though, and I’m excited to watch it. What I want is to be entertained and they’re giving me that. Are you not entertained?

I didn't think Quartararo would do as well as he has and neither did a lot of people. Quartararo had everything a rookie could ask for while Bagnaia and Oliveira were in much more difficult situations. We'll never know how things would have turned out if Bagnaia or Oliveira had been on a near factory Yamaha as rookies but its worth considering when measuring Quartararo's results.

I stand by my theory that Alex Marquez and Binder got better results after a lot of talent left Moto2. Maybe AM73 will adapt to the RCV quickly and same for Binder but he has a taller hill to climb than A. Marquez to get results in MotoGP.
