Macbook logic board(?) Repair

Mackbook pro i7 quad core 2011. 15inch

I've been laid up in SFGen. For the past few months.
I returned to my laptop to find its freezing in a way symptomatic of the logicboard overheating. Looks like it maybe fried a few bits and pieces.

Im looking for suggestions on buying a replacement logic board and having it installed.
Any Barf'rs interested in wrenching on my machine? On the cheap?

If no then any specific recommendations on who to go to? In SF)

I'm home now for a few weeks until my next surgery and have some time.
Ideally sooner is better tho.

Thanks for the polite responses and expert advice!

I know a little about this, what makes you believe it's the logicboard?
generally overheating is a battery/charging issue on MBP.

In general, if you want to breath new life into your MBP, here's what I do:
First, Complete and fresh full TMBU on an ext HD.
Then,
1. Change the battery
2. Get a new power adapter
3. Do a Replace drive with 250/500ish SSD
4. Load Yosemite
5. Restore TMBU
6. Profit.

And also the fans - had a 15" mbpro do something similar - those fans need to be working to keep temps down. Fan replacement was pretty startightforward though fiddly. ifixit.com I seem to remember pretty much had step by step instructions for even swapping out the logic board.
As Papi says, if that's what it is.

If you have opened the lappy already thats most of the work done! WHen you say 'looks like maybe somethings fried', are you sure? Did you look? Fried electronics often has that acrid burnt smell which will hang around for a bit...

Have you looked at the console logs?

you really need to have visibility into the system before you can blame hardware

in your spotlight type "CONSOLE" and select the console app to launch.

then take a look at the latest messages and see if there are any visible errors

also grab a crash log and post it up

perhaps there is something else amiss

ultimately depending on the extent of the damage you can replace the logic board or have it repaired.

mine took a bath I was able to triage and rescue it immediately, however, over time corrosion gradually destroyed the display cable adapter and one day my video went out.

Also another tip, don't buy 3rd party battery replacements. Even, though the factory one has been known to bubble and bulge (is yours doing that?). From my water incident, I bought a non oem battery and I spent quite sometime going over the crash log and console errors until I traced it down to the battery not sending back the proper telemetry to the SMC for hardware throttling.

I found this guy on ebay and sent him my macbook pro 15" 2011 late. He replaced all the burned fried SMD components and the video connector for a very reasonable price and promptly. He has an excellent re work station setup.

Top tips guys thanks.
I did have a diagnosis done.
Went to Love & Haight computer etc.
I was told the graphics card is at fault and will need replacement.
Otherwise I was told logic board is OK, fans OK.

*update* graphics card is intergrated to Locic board.
It's a Logic Board swap out in this case.

Anyone interested in doing it provided I buy the replacement logic board?
I have no tools or expertise in this case.

Located in north beach sf.

Open to polite suggestions. Thanks

If the graphics card is not an integral component of the mobo, then you can go onto Amazon or ebay and get a replacement. Download the manual, look up how to do it on YT, go to town on it. It's not hard, just take your time & use the recommended tools. :thumbup

Hmmm, anythings possible I guess. :dunno
In over 30 years of building out Apple gear, I've seen exactly 2 Video-Graphics cards or chipsets go bad. And that's over thousands of machines.
