Lorenzo vs. Marquez

Superbike Planet put a great interview with JLo 99 on today. As intense as he can be at times, JLo sounds (dangerously) relaxed, and respectful as well. This will be an interesting line up. I can only think of two riders with this much talent paired together at one time, maybe two times in the past, and that would be Lorenzo/Rossi and Rainey/Kocinski. Both Jorge and Mark have Premier Class titles. I can't think of another team that had two riders with PC championships between them. The remaining teams have much to be concerned with. : |

I think 2019 MotoGP will go one of 2 ways:
1) Honda 1-2 with Marquez on top by a very narrow margin and third place way down the points as the Honda duo take almost all of the top 2 steps on the podium.
2) Marquez and Lorenzo take each other out of the championship. I expect Dovi to pick up the pieces and win the championship.

I think #1 is the much more likely scenario. I think Marquez and Lorenzo are mature enough to not take each other out, although it could still happen.

The last person a racer wants to lose to is their teammate who is on the same equipment.

This will be a very interesting year. May be a rough one for Lorenzo, he is very talented but he doesn't relish a good fight on bikes like Marquez does, I know who will blink first.

Lorenzo will need to push and experience a couple of crashes to test and find the limits of the Honda.

MM has already been there done that with the Honda.

Ducati with Nicky and Rossi, but I can see why you'd want to forget that.

Whats it like to live in a world where Mugello 2016 and Red Bull Ring 2018 never happened? :laughing

Just kidding you. 2019 is going to be fun. Lorenzo is likely the only one who can stop Marquez from running the table for the next few years.

I'll be hoping for #2 and love to see Dovi win one. I'll be curious how a few other teams shape up. Will this be the year KTM threatens the podium with Zarco? How will the rookies do?

I think Pedrosa was a good development rider for Marquez. Lorenzo will muddy the waters with his odd riding style and Marquez won't have the same pool of data to pull from, rendering the Honda a big pile of steamy shit.

I hope Yamaha can deliver a podium contending bike this year, and that Ducati remains competitive to the Honda as well. Let the riders fight it out on nearly equal machinery.
Also, Suzuki, KTM and Aprillia, step it up hugely.

I think and I hope 2019 will be an exciting and balanced season. Suzuki had a good 2018 as did Ducati. If Yamaha can get back into the mix along with a revitalized KTM it'll be wonderful.
As much as I like Aprilia, I just don't think they have it together. Iannone can be fast, but they just don't have the bike.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes Lorenzo to find speed on the Honda given how different that bike is to what he's used to. I'm pulling for him, but I'm not expecting that he's gonna just jump on it and be as fast as Marquez right out of the gate.

I would LOVE to see this but in reality, I don't think it will happen.
