lock replacement

Hi all. I have a 77 RD400. At some time before I aquired the bike someone went after the locks with a screwdriver. I dont know if it was a theft thing or the owner lost the keys but I'd like to replace all the damaged lock cores and be able to use one key, like when it was stock. Any suggestions on where to look or who to talk to about this? Thanks, Glen

Pretty easy to do yourself. It's wired into the harness inside the headlight bucket, and two hex head screws hold it into the top triple. Just buy yourself a switch, take the headlight off (disconnect the cables inside the bucket to make room)

To point out the obvious... have you tried eBay? I see a lot of ignition, gas cap, and steering locks are available. Keep in mind that a lot of Yamaha SX parts are the same as on RDs, so that could expand your search window. If you'r handy with very small parts, you can take apart the tumblers and rearrange the plates such that all of the lock cores will match to the same key.

There is also a very active RD400 group on FaceBook. You might join and see if someone has a complete set available.

thanks for the replies. I did go to Ebay, first in fact, and managed to pick up a NOS ignition. I've done that thing, though, where a buy a bunch of stuff thinking I can do whatever and find out none of it is as compatible as I thought or I just can't ge there from here. I'd rather talk to an expert, even if it cost a bit. I did take the gas cap and seat lock to my local locksmith. He said an undamaged gas cap core can be rekeyed but the seat lock no. I suspect the steering lock can be rekeyed if I can remove it without destroyig it. The effort continues! Thanks.

speedygw, Just by chance I picked up two RD400 parts bikes over the weekend. I'd be happy to sell a complete lock-set. I'll send you an email.
