Livin' the Dream (50)

With the sun finally out nice & bright and warmer temps I just had to take a little ride yesterday. Tinkering in the shop the night before, all five bikes seemed to call out "ride me, it's my turn!" But the sexy little Dream 50 stirred my passions most and the question was settled.

I decided on a 90 mile Berryessa/Pope Valley loop.

From Pleasants Valley I headed up Putah Canyon on 128, past the dam and around to Knoxville Rd.

With only 84cc, cruising at 45 - 55 mph requires near constant full throttle and 9K - 11K rpm. But the little buzz bomb happily puts up with it for miles on end without complaint. Good ear plugs are a must-have.

Nearing "the bridge" on Knoxville I saw other riders coming up behind. I waved them past and when they turned into the parking lot I followed. Right away the bike drew a crowd of friendly and curious riders. I was so busy answering questions I forgot to take a picture.

Then it was off to savor the fantastic and deserted Pope Canyon Rd. ...

...then Pope Chiles Rd. took me back to 128 at Lake Hennessee. You definitely need to stay alert on the last section of Pope Chiles with its very tight turns and unguarded creek right alongside the road.

Back on Pleasants Vly Rd. my little friend took me home.

Beautiful pictures and bike!
Question: I thought the Dream 50 was a 50cc bike?

/Soren

Thanks, yes they are 49cc but aftermarket parts for them are very popular in Japan. Mine had an 84cc kit installed by some previous owner. Makes it much more usable on public roads!

Thanks!

Pulitzer Prize material, me thinks.

Wow, they must be handing those out to anybody nowadays.

Throw in a quick trip up to Angwin and back from Pope Valley and that's my favorite ride.

I'm beginning to hate you. :laughing

Right?? :laughing

Good lawdamighty that little bike is gorgeous! :love
Your photos really do right by it, as well.

I second the black plate idea, although it kills me to give DMV one penny more than absolutely necessary. Maybe a historical plate? Is it old enough?

Ever thought about getting the black moto plate for that gorgeous bike?

How much time does it take you to get in and out of a gas station! :laughing

Hadn't thought about the black plate, might be kinda cool but the less I have to interact with DMV the better.

Gas station time is just long enough to pump a whopping 1+ gallon, 1.5 when almost empty. Often takes longer if people start asking questions!

Thanks, the bike is a 1997 although is a tribute to the 1962 50cc GP racer.

Got a black plate for the wife's black car as a present.

All handled on line.

Easy Peasy and it does look a lot better.

Didn't opt for a "custom plate" that's easy for a cop to remember! :laughing

I figured time spent gassing up was more talking than filling.

I always go back and read your ride reports a few times just to drink it all in again. Thanks for posting.

Hey thanks Steve, that's a real compliment. To be honest I do the same thing for the same reason - to relive the joy of the ride over and over!

Wonderful bike, wonderful photos, wonderful report.
Many thanks, again.

Thank you, it's my pleasure to share some moto joy.

Recedite, plebes!
Bill,

Thanks for sharing all the cool bikes and your excursions with us.

(Thread jack...
The "gold on black" plates were from 1963 into 1969.
The '97 Honda would actually need a "dark blue on white" plate with "California" in red script. Those ran from 1969 to present.

End of thread jack, you have now been returned to your local program.)
