Quick question, how much would it cost to put yourself through a police academy if you were to pay 100% out-of-pocket?

It's not cheap. If you are in SJ county; contact your local community college and have them point you to the local POST program if you want to train as a non-sponsored student.:thumbup

NO guarantee you will get hired these days. If you get accepted into the academy, your military training will be a plus.:thumbup

Oh I'd love to, but I've already invested almost 10 years into the military. I'm pretty much halfway to retirement. But here's another question, say I retire at the age of 43 or so.. would any PD take me as a police officer? Or would I be too old? I wouldn't really mind what position, I could be a gate-guard at a military base or BART police even.

I'm not on the job anymore. I will say, I worked with a few guys that did career stints in the military, that retired in their early 40's and they were some of the best folks to work with.:thumbup

You have this thing called 'life' experience, that could make you a great well, rounded, street cop. :2cents as opposed to a 21 y/o snot nosed kid

You are still in a good position to get hired, especially with San Jose, SF, or Oakland.

My reserve trainee is about to get an unconditional offer from Stockton PD, but I know it's not in his heart. I'll pass this along to him. Thanks Sarge.
