KTM 690 SMC engine removal question.

I have manual that walks me through engine removal.I have bike on rear stand, removed rear wheel.
I am at last part of dropping engine. The last step is removing swing-arm pivot bolt. Here's where I need some advise

If I remove swing-arm bolt will that make the swing-arm collapse and drop on the rear stand? I see that the rear shock is still attacked to the frame which is attached to swing-arm. The manual doesn't mention a special tool for this, the only special tool is engine tool that attaches to jack. I am not using this I am using motorcycle lift jack.

I figure I can wait till I hear from someone that has removed their engine.

Any tip or suggestion is highly appreciated.

P.S. The manual said not to squeeze the clutch lever while I have the clutch thinga majig off. (ooops) Did I just f*ck myself?

Never mind :) figured it out.

Thought of working on my bike used to scare me. Now, now so much.

Most likely not. You dont want to pull the clutch lever with the clutch pressure plate off or the slave removed as the piston has nothing to push against and will pop out on some model slaves, or others push against a retaining clip damaging the slave piston. I dont remember, but I think the KTM slave doesnt have a slave retaining clip, so the piston will just pop out. No biggy if you are tearing down the motor anyways.

Its been almost a year since i updated this thread. The issue with the motor is what I have read about with that is a concern with the 690 SMC. The rocker arm bearing took a sh*t at 19K miles. Repair is way beyond my skillset.

The bike was diagnosed at Catalyst by Jim and his folks, when I lived in the bay area. I have since moved to Chico. It was confirmed by local mechanic that the rocker arm bearing was the culprit. It has been in his shop for almost a year. The estimated cost of repair is $1200.

I was going to get it repaired since I love riding this beast, in the meantime I have re converted the 450 EXC back in Supermoto setup and have been riding since

I just bought 2017 BMW R1200 GS Adventure I am now considering selling the bike as is. Blue book minus the repair cost. These bikes are hard to find and I hate to sell but right now I prefer to ride the new bike. Im posting to see if anyone is interested. I will post up in bike for sale.

I'm not a mechanic i do the basic maintenance i pay others to do the major stuff. That's why I am asking $3500 bike as is or if you can justify less. I am open for a discussion. I don't have time or motivation to work on it. I would love to see someone get this bike up and running, she deserves better than sitting in a garage. I am allowing $700 for additional expenses with the $1200. For those that are really interested in this awesome bike i can get you in contact with local mechanic that has the motor. (Reminder the bike is in Chico, that's about 3 hours drive

Sorry for posting the sale of the bike here. For some reason I cannot access the add i put in "moto for sale" yesterday.

All of this might be moot point, like I said I have someone locally that is interested that I will meet with today after work. I wanted BARFER's to have a crack at it in case this doesn't go through. I am not in a hurry to get rid of the bike. She deserves better than how I am treating her.
