Ktm 350exc-f?

I normally ride a CRF450X and a CRF250X. Both are ridden in the woods, but almost exclusively on motocross tracks. My new NEED is a street legal bike that can do the same. I'm really considering the KTM 350EXC-F. I like the idea that it is right in the middle of my other two bikes in the way of power, etc. Given my requirements are 1) Street Legal 2) Motocross - what else should I be considering???

Other than finding the oddball plated mx'er on CL, I think the 350 would be a great double-duty bike with some suspension changes.

Husky 350 (same bike) is super popular. Expensive...but nimble, torque-y, and fairly light weight. I will consider a 350 as my next dirty bike. Plate is useful for fire roads and quick runs to the store while camping other wise useless IMHO as you don't want to do anything more than 10 miles on knobbies.

Sort out the suspension for your weight too and you'll have a hell of a bike that'll keep truckin'.

Awesome. Thanks guys. The bike would be used to legally navigate the roads needed to connect the fireroads up in Tahoe. I'm sure it would also make the occasional trip to the supermarket to get milk for my kids too! I'll have a look at that Husky, thanks....

If you really want to get fancy... the BETA has a street legal 350 as well.

I think KTM is also coming out with a street legal(?presumably) fuel injected 2T as well in 2018 if you can wait and want to be the guinea pig.

The KTM and Husky versions of the 350 are very similar, with the biggest difference being suspension. The Husky has linkage, which may be a bit better for the big jumps than PDS on the KTM version.

I would be shocked if that were CA-legal. It should at least be a green sticker, which will be cool.

KTM's new fuel injected two stroke will not be green stickered according to the dealer I discussed it with last week. It was a brand new KTM dealer..... but he was adamant that they would not be. They are however coming to the USA, 250cc only this year.

That is correct. I don;t see any new 2T being green sticker in CA, even if injected.

Most likely they will both need some suspension upgrades for your weight and speed. Husky or KTM.

Oh and another thing to consider is that all the EXC's and new Husky FE's have wide ratio gearboxes. Which is great for dual sport and street legal purposes, but may not be good for track performance. I assume you are looking at new bikes only so not much other choice out there. But if you are considering used then the older "red head" Husky TE450 and TE310 have tighter ratio gearboxes and are street legal as well.
