hey BARFerz, been quite awhile since I've posted on ye ol' trusty BARFz - missed you guys!

So we obviously cant trust any news or official numbers coming out of China - but we can trust people we know to give us a heads up on what might really be happening there, hence giving us a better idea as to what might happen here. SOOooo does anyone have any friends in China who can give us an idea as to the situation there?

Not that I can easily contact.

Plus communication is monitored so a real answer would have to be read between the lines

My niece has lived and worked there for many years, and communicates often by FB and email. It's not so dark or mysterious... normal people doing normal things.

You would not want to communicate with them at this time - they could easily get in trouble.

lol, ill say this once

china has their own apps that you wont hear about, cuz they are in chinese - how do i know, cuz my family uses these apps all day long to talk to family members, majority of communication is NOT ABOUT how horribly China is covering up shit left/right.

Majority is random homebrewed connoctions of how it will help save/prevent you. And alot of random reports of how contagious and how its able tobe spread/killed, family is not communicating in a fashion where its just depicting the gov as lying....... yes they may be angry bout this or that (just like stateside) that has happened but its not the MAIN issue at topic here.

You do have to realize the world is saying the same shit over bout usa, wtf they said it wouldnt hit them, now look, are they hiding their #'s because in Jan they did report 5 cases, but in Feb they said none was here.... wtf

I keep up with a tour guide who lives in Shanghai and I have another friend that lives there. The government is starting to lift restrictions slowly. I never got the sense that they feared for their lives or they were in any danger. Just go and follow some Influencers on IG that live there. You'll get a sense of what life is like. China isn't some backwards ass shithole (at least not Shanghai) as everyone makes it out to be.

same here. i have a lot of colleagues in china (all in various large cities), and they have said for a couple of weeks now that things are getting back to normal (completely normal in a couple of them). they have re-activated several projects and other business activities that had been put on hold due to the restrictions, and are accelerating schedules in some cases. but even during the early stages, they were calm and pretty matter-of-fact about it.

My girlfriend’s sister lives there. She’s back to work and apparently things are pretty normal now. The government is tracking where everyone goes via cell phone scanning and limiting flow of people. Not much else I can say, because the gf and sister are probably scared to say too much. :wtf

Not at all. I went to Shanghai and Beijing with my Chinese-American girlfriend a while back and I was highly impressed with certain aspects of their society.

It was by far my favorite city I visited when I went there a few years ago. A true international city and I would even say it's cleaner than SF.

My GF is in the garment industry and is in communication with her peeps in China pretty constantly. The most recent boxes that have arrived from China at their warehouse have been including masks and glove care packages (boxes of masks and gloves). Most recent development is one factory closing not because of the virus there, but because reduced demand in the US won't justify keeping it open. After next week, she will not have any product coming in until June or July. But no word of unrest, but word that things are slowly getting back to "normal".

I've got a vendor in Shenzen and they are opening up everything. Restaurants, public transit etc. And lifting the face mask requirements.

It's business as usual in China with little sign of the virus.

My Chinese friends and coworkers are even asking me if I'm OK. I have a bunch of friends and coworkers in Shanghai and areas closer to Wuhan, but not really close. They are taking extra persuasions like masks , taking temperatures and hygiene, but now they are back hitting the gym.

My company makes widget assemblies and builds are going good with no sign of supply chain disruption since a one week delay ~ February.

I have posted this in other threads, but at the Shanghai airport every single person coming in gets tested and they have results in one hour.

I have even trolled WeChat for any signs of trouble, but either they are really good at filtering or there is not a big issue outside of some hotspots like Wuhan.
