King Of The Hammers?

Anyone else going? I know there's no Moto race this year, but Johnson Valley is awesome, and I love watching the races from places you can only get to on bikes.

I think the shutdown of lands during the event was pre-planned. It's grown in size so much that they're now closing the area and charging spectator admission to offset the costs of cleanup and facilitating the event. Last year was huge, and the exodos rivaled Burning Man, so I can see the need.
It'll be interesting to see if there is increased or decreased LEO presence.

I went last year it was pretty crazy. The camping was not the best I'll admit I just feel DIRTY all the time. There is dust everywhere and people riding around all day and night. It was a pretty crazy time. I rode out to Chocolate Thunder for King of the Motos for the first race on my quad and I have never seen a crazy amount of people moving through the desert to one place at night. It was one of the sketchiest rides of my life HAHA. Hammertown is pretty awesome also I would watch the races at the Monster booth drink all the free Monsters :) You walk around and oogle all the offroad porn there is all over the place.

King of the Motos was pretty crazy also, that is some hard enduro stuff.

I lost my quad's key on backdoor somewhere when I was watching the jeeps crawling up the waterfall. Then my CDI took a dump riding through the sand luckily someone towed me back to my camp and that pretty much ended KOH2018 since I didn't have any transportation to get around.

I also got to drive a side by side at the demo rides for the first time ZOMG it was so much fun, if I there were more places to ride them around me and I could actual afford one I'd get one :) Johnson Valley is a blast on side by sides and quads.

I rode some of the course in my quad also the day before and they drive some pretty rough stuff like boulder fields.

I don't think I'm going this year. My dirtbike doesn't have lights on it =/

Last year was my first year not co-driving, and I am glad I didn't. Backdoor ended our race.
I did buy a Willy's Jeep while I was out there last year, because Hammers. It was my answer to the side by side use case. Not as fast, but cheaper.
As far as camping, last year was dustier than it has been all the previous times I have gone. That said, I take my toy hauler or in this case, my newly cobbled together redneck toy hauler because the need to shower is great, and having a personal bathroom makes for a huge upgrade in quality of life.
Still, the rigs running around and the spectacle is amazing. I make 3 or 4 trips a year out there to camp and ride because the area has so much variety of terrain.

Cool yeah it looks like a lotta fun to race out there looks tiring =P I watched most of the racing when I went home and it's amazing the punishment these machines have to take.

I remember there were a lot of rangers policing the area too. There are bound to be a lot of yahoos out there. I think they were stopping people for not wearing helmets I think.

Here's my first drive in the Side by Side, side by sides are a lot of fun in Johnson Valley. Where my quad would be a handful to ride the side by side was so smooth.
