Kevin Cameron Explains Everything!

I was checking out the Cycle World channel on YouTube, and there is a playlist there that is all Kevin Cameron all the time. If you know who Kevin Cameron is, you'll know how great this is. If you don't know who Kevin Cameron is, suffice it to say that he's forgotten more about motorcycle engineering and tuning than most of us will ever know. He may appear to be just an eccentric codger - well, he is an eccentric codger - but he knows how to explain very technical concepts in an accessible way. You can learn a great deal about bikes from spending some time with these vids.

The videos don't appear to be in any particular order, so start with what interests you. Here, for instance.

I'm struggling to embed, so I hope the links work okay.

They won't work from a play list.. :rant

I tried searching by title and found it and the code was the same.

I think they have added the last =24s so they will not embed at all. Probably the users choice :dunno

I'm guessing that CW set it up that way so that you have to go to their channel. :(

To clarify, the links work, but the embeds don't. Follow the links, and you will learn a bunch.

Above all I like to play.
FWIW, I don't think it's a thing CW did. vBulletin's YouTube module seems to be only able to read the YouTube video code and it borks out on the various modifiers that can be added.

The best way to use a YouTube playlist on BARF is just how you did it: just give the URL.

If you want to embed a particular video in a post, go get the complete URL, like

Code:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTfIzWnszrw&t=2s

Then cut out the chunk between the first equals sign, "=", and the first ampersand, "&", and paste that chunk between "[YOUTUBE]" and "[/YOUTUBE]" like this:

Code:
[PLAIN][YOUTUBE]yTfIzWnszrw[/YOUTUBE][/PLAIN]

The above gives you this for your first embed:

Now if we could just get a Peter Egan channel we'd really have something.
That man is a god to me.

Kevin Cameron is one of my favorite motorcycle writers - along with Ed Hertfelder. I own multiple books from both and have saved a big pile of articles torn from various magazines for both of them. In fact, when Cycle magazine was killed off my first goal was to track down those two.

So thanks for the reference to the YouTube channel for Kevin Cameron. I have it bookmarked and plan to systematically watch all of the videos.

As for an Ed Hertfelder channel, he's now seriously old - in his 90's - although as far as I can tell he's still alive and living in Tucson Arizona among the big cactus plants. I understand that he was a great speaker at motorcycle events back in the day. I've never seen him on YouTube at all.

And Ed Hertfelder....

True, and then Maynard too, I'll even throw in a little D'india....but we could threadjack the fuck outta this thing if we're not careful.
Back to Cameron though, this topic almost makes me sad. I know I'm old but I easily remember the happy feeling I got when the new C/W (and just Cycle prior to that) issue arrived in my mailbox. I would devour every printed word and had a specific routine as to what order I would read the columns. Each and every time I read Kevin's TDC I either learned something I'd never considered thinking about or couldn't wait to get out to my garage to apply something new. Egan just made me want to sit in a frost covered oil soaked garage and write something. His columns were published in 3 hardbound books called Leanings. I highly recommend.
I know, progress....but it's a shame to see what motorcycle magazines have become for those of us that relied so heavily on them *not that long ago*.
Point and click is nice but we seem to have sacrificed "anticipation". (cue Carly Simon belching out that ketchup jingle here)

Yeah, I was an Egan first, Cameron second kind of guy. Both spoke to my heart as well as my head. And yeah, I like Carly Simon, and I love that song.

Just finished episode 20 of these videos. I have to wonder if Kevin has a whole room full of old engines and parts. He has shown quite a few different engines while explaining things. And we already know that he has a complete set of magazines that his articles have appeared in - right there on the shelves behind him.

Do you think these episodes are filmed at his home or at the office?
