Funny how some celebrities are all about privacy and others over-share this stuff. I personally see this as an attention grab, but if she's some kind of role model and it helps someone else be more comfortable being who they are, great.
This! It is the point. She's a celebrity, or sorts. This was an intentional move on her part to generate interest. No publicity is bad publicity. She's 17. She probably knows her days doing her current shtick of playing an 11-year-old type persona are numbered.
There is something weirdly routine about famous youthful stars very publicly experimenting with gender with a ton of fol-de-rol accompanying it.
You wanna congrat JoJo? Fine. But it's probably a lot harder for some kid in Nowhere Neb to do so. If JoJo/Miley/whomever's declarations help it be easier for the nobody, I guess its a positive.
I don't know who JoJo is, but I'm happy that she's declaring herself and making a more comfortable place in the world for her to be herself. But that's not what's really at stake here.
People look up to her, and when she publicly comes out like this, it's just one more thing that gives other young people the courage to explore their own identity, and their own desires, and maybe come out themselves instead of conforming and living a life of disappointing denial.
thanks everyone for the kind words, yes I know it's not appropriate for a 59 year old American male to even be aware of JoJo Siwa let alone wear one of her bows on his California Conservation Corps hat, but I often wonder off in it to areas I shouldn't.
JoJo coming out does seem to be a possible career move but I think it's genuine but I can see it getting in some peoples craw.
A couple of years I went to a birthday party for 3 people: one in her early 30's, one in his mid 50s and one her mid 70s. A very conservative couple brought their 7 year old daughter and she had cat ears on. I asked her mother if she had heard Learn to Meow. a Chinese pop tune and sang the fairly distinctive chorus for her. she Immediately recognized it and said she thought her daughter and friends sounded like they were singing in Chinese, well that's cus they were. I asked the little girl if she had any JoJo's bows and she confirmed she did.
So I went to a party and had the most in common with a 7 year old girl,
awkward to say the least.
JoJo has seemed to push the girl power angle, which isn't a problem for me, in fact I approve of it.

Very few people do - though I met a woman last year who very much did. It was always hilarious watching her meet new people and counting how many minutes she'd wait before telling the new person that she is a "gold star lesbian" or about the last person she had sex with.
I want to be able to ask questions without being seen as offensive....I usually wait until we're friends before I ask people such things. My new roommate is my 3rd gay roommate, first lady though, and frankly...they've been the best roommates I've had lol.

- So far the two dudes have been obsessively clean
- The lady doesn't have dudes hanging around my place
- There will never be sexual tension between us

As Kaufman recalls of that first meeting, JoJo sat at the head of the table, taking photos of each slide. The teenager even went to London to meet with Nickelodeon’s trend team, an in-house collective that keeps the network up to date on its audience’s taste, to “refine and define her look.” She actively works with Nickelodeon’s in-house stylist Arturo Chavez on creating each custom outfit, which in turn is translated to the JoJo’s Closet line for Target so that her fans can look like her.
“She’s been in every business conversation since day one,” Kaufman says. It’s been a new way of working with a Nickelodeon star, but the network has also never had a live person achieve this level of consumer-product success. “She’s extremely involved in the design. She wants to understand why one T-shirt sold better than another. She wants to understand how her products are being distributed across retail [and] how it’s being promoted.”
