Has anyone been to the Isle of Man TT?

I'd like to go this year (yeah, I know it's kind of late as its 5/31 throu 6/7); does anyone have a recommendation for a motorcycle tour that attends the Isle of Man TT?

TIA,
Jim M

I recommend going to the NW200 in Northern Ireland in May, this race has all the same riders as the Isle of Man, the only difference is that they all race together compared to doing timed laps of the Isle of Man Island.

I go to the Ulster Grand Prix in Northern Ireland mid-August every year which is 30 miles away from my parents house :thumbup

These 2 races are the biggest all season.

These races will blow your mind compared to watching a MotoGP race, you stand at the edge of the road and if you where stupid enough stuck your hand or body part out an inch would get it whacked at a high rate of speed.

Last year we stood on the first straight away as the Superbikes came past us doing 198mph 4/5 guys wide. At the UGP there is a place called 'Deers Leap' where the bikes come over a hill doing 170mph pulling a wheelie 200 yards down a hill, breath taking.

Go on YouTube and type Ulster Grand Prix or NW200, I put a video up there under irishgixxer although this was in the rain and these guys never slowed down.:wow

This year I am going to the Ulster Grand Prix in August although I am planing to go to the NW200 in May 2009 for 3 reasons + bonus.

1. Cheaper flights in May, non peak season
2. I have never been to the NW200, I do have the DVD's.
3. Direct flights from San Fran to Ireland on Aer Lingus
4. Free lodgings and transport at my parents house :party

Looking into a trip this year, and though I would bump this post to see if I could get some more info on travel arrangments and a good place to stay and party, the NW200 sounds amazing as well. Is anyone planning or know anyone who is going this year?

You needed to book your lodging and transport last year.

Typically the boats are booked the week following the previous years TT. Some of the Island Packet boats are booked multiple years in advance. If you're not going to be transporting a motorcycle or if you're willing to be creative - some of the fishing boats serve as unofficial ferries.

Renting a bike in Wales or Ireland and transporting it to the IOM may or may not be a problem. IF you'd booked last year.

The IOM TT is something that can't happen without forethought.

This is tentative information, subject to change. I'm probably premature to even mention it:

Plan ahead, I'm putting a moto-tour together for Wales and also one for IOM TT week in 2010. Right now it looks like 14 days with 11 spent on the bikes. My intent is to utilize a fleet of 8 various Triumphs, with a support van for luggage and small inns and B&Bs for lodging.

I don't have specifics on cost but I'm trying to make it as cost effective and inclusive as I can. Figure about $200 usd per day plus lunch, gas, beer/booze, tips and sundries. Motorcycle rental, lodging, breakfast and dinner (but no booze) will be included. Air fare not included, transport from Birmingham, UK airport to and from our base hotel will be.

This should be a very entertaining and enjoyable motorcycle holiday. Some of the details are still up in the air. I am open to suggestions.

I doubt you will be able to do all that for $200 a day

I have been in Eugen for 3 days, it rains a LOT here!!!! leaving for Portland this afternoon then back to Reno:thumbup

make sure you take plenty of pics of your trip. Scotland is WAY better than Wales for touring around!!!(I may be baised) Let me know I have "inside" connection in both countries *LOL*

I have mentioned previously - the cost estimates are just that. Estimates. The largest cost of the tour is the motorcycle rental. I have people. That'll mean a great deal when it comes to securing the final pricing on the rental bikes.

There's a good chance that the final pricing on the tour won't be cast in stone until as few as 15 days before booking deadline. I'm trying to nail it down well before then. Booking deadline will be 90 days before departure.

The plans! Boss! Boss! The Plans! :)
