Is that okay to show super speeds in a video

By that I mean way above the speed limits (above 100mph) in the middle of nowhere of course? No accidents, just plain group ride fun?

I'm thinking of posting one, but if it's wise not to just in case, okay. I don't want trouble for anyone involved, including me, nor want to embarrass our fellow barfers that are cops in some way or another. :teeth

You don't need visible speed on a dash, they can calculate a marker you pass and do it that way. Its a good custom to edit out plates especially on group rides. Plus I don't want some LEO to look up my plate and then try and find me at a later date for questioning.

Well, so they do bother, huh? That's all I needed to know. Damn. They must be very busy, because there's speeding videos everywhere...

But for the sake of the argument: So if you're following someone. Is there a way to edit out the plates from a video, without going frame by frame?

With plates or not, they can get to me via my youtube account with my real name, enough deterrent!

Unless you're doing some really stupid, reckless shit, it's unlikely that the authorities will track you down from a youtube video. It's definitely been done before--there was a guy who recorded himself lapping Manhattan island at ludicrous speed, and guys who filmed themselves running from cops--but just some motorcyclists having fun in the middle of nowhere? I doubt anyone would bother.

When I go slow, I go fast
In order to convict you a prosecutor needs the infraction, the date, time, and place the infraction occurred, and the person who committed the infraction.

It is very hard to get all those off of a video but the more brazen the lawbreaking, the more they will dig. A video pointed forward showing your speed does not show who is piloting your bike. A video pointed at your face may be hard to determine speed. Depending on landmarks it may be hard to determine jurisdiction.

Now, if it is your bike, and your Youtube account and you are speeding through a well known road and you post it on a Sunday night right after your ride? That is plenty to get you on.

This was good, but

This is bad. :)

Yes, it was about a bunch of Ducatis, some with pillions, fast as heck in super tight, no DY roads in Carmel, plus even faster down Highway 25 and 50 (where we got passed like stopped by a couple of unsrestricted AMGs at seemingly over 175mph). Not one soul around, not even driveways in view, but definitely not legal.

In light of conflicting evidence, I won't post, because I won't bother creating a ghost account on wikileak and color me bike blue, erase all my buddies plates and claim I have no idea who these guys were. But it was fun.

Thanks all for the input. Ride safe!

Wondering if saying that the playback is sped up and that the fish-eye lens of the camera exaggerates speed would make a difference?

Using a marker to determine speed would be hard if the playback wasn't 1:1.

I'm guessing that you'd have to show unsafe / reckless riding around other cars, high delta passing, too fast for conditions, etc.

i alway set my speedo to kilometers per hour before making any videos. So ya that's whats displayed on my videos, officer.

ask that guy who used to post up videos of his crazy lane splitting use of said etc.

lived in a country in south america i believe.

he in in prison now.
he hit and killed someone...but he was driving a cage at that time.
his videos were used to convict him.

Zoinks!!!!
If it's just a group ride at a spirited pace (infraction level), I doubt anyone would care. If it's racing, stunting, or other riding/driving that would amount to a misdemeanor, I would advise against it.

Would you post a video of yourself stealing or driving DUI?

I seem to remember a while back where they tracked a guy down by his IP address after he posted some high speed runs.

I know of a dude who filmed himself outrunning the cops multiple times and he put them up on YT and still hasn't been caught. :dunno

from what i gather, if you are endangering the lives of innocent people around you, then the LEO's might come after you (if they have the resources at the time) but usually if you are in the middle of nowhere, they couldnt care less about your video.
