iPhone backup issues - not enough space on phone?

Trying to restore a 64gb phone backup to a new 64gb phone. How tf does the backup from the exact same phone size engorge itself to not fit on the new phone?

Maybe the software on the new phone requires more space than the old one? Honestly, just a stab in the dark.

Nope. Software was up to date from like 1 hour before.
