The differences between iOS and android are getting smaller.

My gripes about Samsung:
- Samsung lags Google updates by a fair bit (but then lollipop versions of Android have been flaky on Nexus phones).

- Samsung makes it hard to load custom ROMS, but their UX isn't nearly as good as Cyanogen, Paranoid Android, or Apple. (they're emulating Apple without being as good as Apple).

Been using Android phones for a few years, and now thinking about going back. =\

I recently bought a Galaxy tablet. Returned it a week later. The operating system was too different than what I was used to with Apple and Windows.

I have been android for years and just bought an samsung S5. (No S6 for me because of the lack of SD card and removal battery). I love the S5 and lollipop.

I also bought an Ipad air a month ago for work and it works well for what I need, but the operating system is so far behind android its really a joke that anyone could compare the two. IOS is really no different than the original IOS years ago, besides adding a few drop down menus it looks and feels like IOS of 2007.

The lack of widgets and ability to customize your user experience is beyond annoying. The lack of a menu and back button drives me crazy. The fact that you have to change the settings for most apps in the setting section and not in the app itself is annoying as well.

For the good: IOS works really well with Apple TV and streams everything smoother than Android, although chromecast is getting better. Apple also syncs better with Itunes than android. but Itunes sucks for the most part.

If you like an operating system with no options or ability to control your own phone, than IOS is your option. However, if you like the ability to customize your own phone and streaming is not that important than android is the best system without a doubt.

Also, if you switch to android from IOS give it more than a week to learn the setup. My wife and brother switched from IOS to android and the first week was difficult and they both thought they made the wrong decision. However, after a week or so they both figured it out and now would never consider going back to IOS. My wife used my ipad and thought it was a joke how old the operating system felt.

Stay with Apple. You really have to be a "Fandroid" to justify the change. I have both and while my Galaxy S6 is nice, I still find myself using the iPhone 6 as my regular phone. It's just easier, works every time, less bloatware and believe it or not.. better battery life. The S6 (until further updates) has HORRIBLE battery life. I get about 2-3 hours of SOT vs my old S5 which consistently got 4-5 SOT.

If the battery life on the S6 got fixed, I'd use it more often. Although its quick charge is pretty neat.

IOS is easier because it doesn't do anything. IOS has icons and folders, which of course is easy to use.

I would say that the difference between IOS and android is the same difference between a harmony remote and a basic universal remote. The harmony remote is more complicated and difficult to set up but once you set it up and start using it you realize how much better it is over a universal remote.

There is a steeper learning curve with the android but that is because it does so much more than IOS.

All I ever hear from Apple people is that it is easier to use. I guess it comes down to whether your would like a phone that does more or is simple because it does less.

As for the battery I personally have found the s5 battery is even better than my old s4. I have 60% of my battery left when I get home from work. I course I am not on my phone all day long but the battery lasts me all day and if I need more battery I just pop in a new one and its good to go.

I agree with pretty much everything FlewbyU said.

Also, consider the "ecosystem" you're attached to with either religion operating system. If you're heavily invested into iTunes and its media/apps/services you'll have to reinvest on the Google play platform. For some users that primarily use free apps, this mean almost nothing, but if you've amassed a significant media collection through iTunes, you may find yourself rebuying that media if you can't get it migrated off your devices/account.

If you go android my personal vote is for the Nexus6 direct from Google or Motorola.

No bloatware, no shopware, no blockware, timely OS updates.

I prefer the vanilla Android experience versus the weird rejiggered versions that Samsung and others use.

Comes unlocked. Works on any network, just insert sim card.

Why Samsung? I have HTC M8 and it's closest to stock Android. The phone it self is solidly build, and just looks nice.

I'd recommend the moto x 2nd gen pure edition. Awesome device.

ITunes is the biggest piece of crap software ever created and any option you have to dump that steaming pile, I suggest you take.

I switched to iPhone 6 after many years as an android user. I think if you're just using the phone for basic uses, the iOS performs better. I like my iPhone 6.

+1

The only things I miss with Android is that I can run a wifi analyzer and use a bluetooth OBDII adapter to troubleshoot my car. Both of those things aren't options with iOS for some dumb reason.

Other than that, I need the phone to be a reliable communications tool and iOS wins, in my experience.

Sales wouldn't necessarily show direct correlation to the usefulness nor quality of a device--or are you saying VHS is better than Betamax? :hand

That being said, were I having X amount of money and giving a simple phone my mom could use, just maybe I'd buy her an iPhone. (Cuz I'm hoping she won't mess it up.) Then again--since I'm not in the Apple eco-system it would be SO hard to fix/connect it for her.

BTW I read the article.. it is a bit strange that they are claiming 'a disaster' for something of 10% lower sales within 1-month allotted. But OK :rolleyes

I'm in the same boat. Only hesitation I have for leaving Crapple is my big ITunes library. Then again, the new ITunes is a total fucking nightmare to navigate and I've been having massive problems with songs on my 4S that Apple can't help with. So part of me says it's time to ditch Apple. ITunes really has become a mess.
