Input and suggestions for a 2 week ride across 4 states

Greetings:

I am taking my 1st interstate ride late June to early July starting from Modesto. The 1st leg will start in Las Vegas (Going to trailer the FJR across the desert). The idea is to go through Utah up to Wyoming. The return route is up in the air with a way point somewhere in Idaho. There will be only 2 of us taking the ride. My BMW pal will ride from San Diego to meet me in that gawd awful place, Las Vegas. We are in our 50's, experienced riders.

At this point I don't know of anyone else available to make the trip as I prefer to have 1 or 2 other riders along. Its possible he may have to return earlier to manage his business. If so, I will continue the ride- maybe through Oregon and N. Cal.

I've purchased the "Butler" maps, AAA services,a hydration pack and a Garmin 550. I am looking at some "mesh" gear as my regular leathers might end up fusing my tail to the seat.

Its unlikely that my desire to go through Yellowstone will happen as this is the high season for tourists. Dunno, but I would like to see at least part of it, if possible.

If anyone has taken this route, I would be open to your suggestions on any topic.

Thanks

WW

If you have two whole weeks, you might as well see how many National Parks you can see. Start with Grand Canyon, then work your way through all of them in Utah, finally heading up to Tetons and Yellowstone.

I've done 12 National Parks in two weeks in a sports car looking for similar roads to the ones I would want to ride on a motorcycle. Obviously I didn't spend a lot of time in most of them. While I was at it, I visited all 11 Western States, but some of them just barely got touched, like New Mexico. Be sure you go through Monument Valley too.

I would suggest trying to limit mileage to a maximum of 350 miles a day. That gives you more time to look at things and enjoy the scenery. It also gives you time to get settled in in the evening rather than pulling into a hotel late at night. I prefer to hit the road at first light and then not hurry through the day.

I also prefer to avoid freeways if at all possible, even as far as riding on Highway 89/91 from Provo to Ogden rather than getting on I-15. You'll have to decide for yourself what type of roads you want to ride on.

Have a good time.

Fixed.

OP, just curious, why are you trailering instead of riding to LV?
