I need help from the experts on how to trap feral cats. (tldr readers may skip to the *)

There is a feral male cat, let's call him GrayBalls, who prowls my parents' neighborhood and has sired two litters (1 with his sister - eeew).

Last spring I caught the two 6 week old kittens from this litter under a lawn fertilizer and the neighbors caught the mama/sister cat with a trap. All 3 were fixed, mama was set free back into the neighborhood and the kittens were raised into sweet indoor cats by neighbor's kids. :)

But GrayBalls remained free and easy with the squirting.

There is a new feral kitten around, about 6 months old or so. She sleeps in our yard and we thought she was a male at first. Then today I see her all lovey dovey with GrayBalls. There has been some cat yowling early in the morning, too.

I gave GrayBalls the, "you're a dirty kitty," finger-wag out the window and he froze in place, staring me down. :chuci

*I need to get a trap and get this guy fixed, same with the new adolescent girl cat who may now be pregnant.

I am on the fence on whether to allow the boy cat back into our neighborhood even after getting neutered because in the last year he has caused two open wounds to our very social male cat (fixed), who is now afraid to go outside. :(

Crazy cat BARFers please help guide me in the right direction!

BOOSH!

After trapping GrayBalls, you'll want to take him here.

Thank you - that seems like a lot of money to RENT a device to trap a damn cat ($50-100?). I was hoping a barfer might own a trap.

If he gets fixed, maybe he'd be less aggressive?

Hi Connie. I hope that would be the case but it is an unknown at this point. Also trying to figure out whether to take Senor Ballz to the SPCA or to the family vet for treatment. He's not friendly to humans at all. My family's cat has been to the vet 3 times due to scuffles with this feral cat.

Please to making of the readings for great understandings. :x That's the deposit amount to make sure you bring it back. The actual rental fees are almost or actually zilch.

I've been known to trap a cat or two in the past. Get a wire small animal trap. Something like this:

Tuna works great as a bait, but it needs to be placed in foil which is sorta folded or crumpled up so that they have to work at it a little to get to it. My first attempt using tuna left in the can didn't work out, so I had to use the foil method. Works like a charm. :thumbup

Ok I have completed the re-readings and will kindly borrow the RZA-tarp for great baitings and temporary containment of meows. Shooting kitties is not something I would condone or do, but the deer overpopulation is certainly worthy of such scrutiny for the safety of other motorcyclists and/or tasty cookings. Happy Hornet might agree.

Merry Christmas and thank you all!

I've rented cat traps before. It worked best using feeder mice as bait. The SPCA picks up the cat for nothing. I only had to follow certain guidelines. It didn't make the neighbors happy but the cat didn't shit in my yard again...:teeth
