Impatient cagers

So today we decided to join a couple of friends and ride down to Mass Landing for lunch at Phil's. There's 3 of us in line, with our sidecar at the rear of the group. Two incidents happened that had me shaking my head:

1. We're heading west on Hecker Pass Hwy and approaching the turn for Mount Madonna, and there's a line of several cars waiting to turn onto the highway from the Mt Madonna road. Our first 2 bikes go past the intersection, then the first car in line spins her tires and pulls out in front of me, and starts driving slower than the flow of traffic. She immediately knew she screwed up because she pulled over at the first opportunity to let me pass, so I could rejoin the group.

2. We're approaching Moss Landing going south on Hwy 1 - right where it narrows from 2 lanes to a single lane. We're moving at the speed limit, but traffic is such that there's a steady line of vehicles. As we're approaching the merge I see a car in the rear view mirror just blasting up to us in the left lane, doing probably 20 mph faster than traffic. I don't know if he wanted to try and pass all 3 bikes or what, but I let him go by me, and then he realized that not only was there 2 more bikes ahead of me, but a solid line of cars as well - so he has to grab a bunch of brake. He then proceeded to drive about 5 mph slower than the rest of the traffic, letting a large gap open up in front of him - Oregon plates with 4 millenials in the car...

I can't understand why people feel they need to put their car into the middle of a group of bikes - whether the group is 2 bikes or 200 bikes they feel a need to split up the group - maybe they want to feel like they're part of the group - I don't know!

I hate it when someone pulls in front of you and slows down if you want to be in front you'd better be faster. There's this thing called an accelerator pedal use it! Cars have so much power nowadays yet people don't use it =/

Both cases sound like the NDE (near death experience) guilt effect: If either you nearly died, or you nearly caused somebody else to die, the feeling of guilt and/or stupidity for the reckless driving causes you to go slowly for a while, it's kinda like an apology really. Or you could view it as catching your breath after being terrified.

Alas, for most of us, those feelings fade pretty quickly. And from what I can tell, some just aren't troubled by those kinds of feelings at all.

May not apply in this scenario but sometimes you have to remind yourself that basic sedans do not have a far line of sight. They can barely see what's passed one motorcycle, if anything. I give them the benefit of the doubt. The fact that the first driver pulled over is joojoobees. You wave and thank for another courteous driver today.
