and want to split cars and motorcycles at 80mph....I ain't gonna preach but....

At least try and make it look graceful and cool, not like you just started riding a motorcycle. Think of the rest of us who have to go by the cars you passed and not make eye-contact.

It's like when we're at a bar in a group and we meet a group of nice ladies/men who want to hang out and you start projectile vomiting. It's that kinda effect on everyone else...some laugh, some are in shock, and some just have vomit on their boots :laughing

Had a kid on a red Ninja pass me on the shoulder of 37 the other day and it was scary watching him. I guessed he was new to riding because he'd hit the ripple and freak out. He also target fixated twice and got the bushes.

I wanted to catch up to him but wasn't worth speeding up the shoulder.

Was it beat up with no fairings and an obnoxious exhaust?
I was doing 75 on 37 (eastbound) yesterday afternoon and he cut in front of me to pass the car ahead of me on the shoulder. That's not what bothered me.
The fact that he nearly threw it away by taking his hand of the throttle to give me the peace sign as he went by further removed him from *good ambassador* status.

I think graceful and cool is in the eye of the beholder. I see experienced riders weaving and leaned over as they split when there is absolutely no need. I'll follow them in the exact same lane position and speed with zero weaves just fine.

Very true that it's in the eye of the beholder and....don't judge me man, you have no idea how much I have to lean to turn my R3! :afm199 :laughing

Undetermined
There is a guy on highway 24 that I see every morning that rides like a jackass...also see him on Pleasant Hill road (if you are on this forum, that's you, buddy!).

He finally must have dumped his bike because his plastics are dangling and he is still riding like a jackass. Splits way too fast, isn't smooth, and just disregards everyone.

He rides a (what used to be White) Ninja or Yamaha 300. I see him every morning around 8am.

I'm all for splitting, but agree with OP: do it with grace, confidence, and damn it--do it politely and throw a deuce when folks move over for you.

I am way all in for splitting and being respectful to our fellow road users -- almost always. Kazman said I stare (could only be for a sec) at people that don't pay attention...:laughing

I just see different styles out there. Only 2 styles actually bother me though:
1. Not checking your mirrors / holding up riders behind you
2. Being aggressive with other cars.

I think the weaving thing is strange bc it reduces your ability to emergency stop but others think I split to fast and others still think I split too slow. To each their own- no judgements here.
