Riddle me this.
Wait wait wait...you more areas that are becoming more densely populated require more police enforcement?!

That's just crazy talk.

Is it summer yet?
Man, that's always been the case. In fact it seems to have gotten a bit lighter between Fairfield and Vallejo. Used to be two to three times a week you'd see four or five chp on the side of the road nailing people.

Sounds like the basis of a new risk rating score; "Hwy 80 has a CHP index of 15"*.

*= Number of observations times number of CHP observed

I got a feeling that with Valljo and Richmond seeing a surge of violence that the CHP will have a stronger precense in the area.

OP hit the nail on the head. Gotta fill the quota early in the year so cops can sit at Dunkin' and eat donuts and drink coffee from September through December...

:rolleyes

Cops are more health aware these days... we sit at Fro Yo's, and eat salads.

I think its a herding technique. Keeps the traffic speed nearer the speed limit. That fulfills the CHP's objective of traffic safety.
Its gotta be like trying to control a stampede. :laughing

Probably more like herding cats ... :D

In February of this year, the CHP academy in West Sacramento successfully graduated 115 sworn officer out of 198. I would expect to see more CHP out there on the roads.

With 58 counties in Calif., the addition of (on average) 2 per county means the increase will barely be noticed.

And we dont send 2 to every county... San Jose is getting 9, we got 11 out of the last class, and 10 out of the class before that one....

Wait, what? My understanding is that CHP replace retired officers with graduates from the academy at an about even pace. That means the number of officers would remain (relatively) unchanged.

Nope. You understand incorrectly.

I'm open to enlightenment :)

Headquarters decides how many officers go to each office. They take into consideration the number of vacancies (retirements, transfers, terminations) and then allocate X officers to each office.

From what I heard, we lose approximately 10-20 officers a month for the reasons I listed above.
