I wanna go ride - but, the smoke!

I had a new set of AX41 tires installed on my KTM yesterday, filled it up with gas and was ready to go up into the hills and find out if they're as good as the reviews say they are. I even went to the YMCA early today for my workout so that I could get up in the hills and back before it got too hot. But as I'm walking out of there at about 8:00 a.m. the sun is red through the smoke. There was enough smoke that you could look right at the sun. And you can't see the mountains 15 miles away either.

So I'm staying inside the house all day and will breathe clean air instead. Who knows when the fires will get under control enough for the air to clear out, but I ain't gonna breathe that stuff.

I feel sorry for anybody who waited all year to do the IDBDR and picked this week.

Now where's the right smiley for this? :rant :smoking :burnout

I'm in the same boat. I took the day off work to ride, but I'm not gonna ride it looks like. Just sit here and be sad over folks losing their homes. :/

Smoke eased up yesterday.. seems winds have brought it back, but not super bad here on the peninsula connection to the south bay.

I caught a drone vid from Vacaville PD shot this morning.
Can't believe fire in my old neighborhood of Browns Valley along with everything thru Berryessa. Two months ahead of Oct "fire season"

Currently fresh air, blue sky, and surrounded by a redwood forest.
I'm due back in VV by Oct, amazon sell 'rona fire suits?

Damn guys, stay safe out there.

:flameThe flame seems rather appropriate:flame
The smoke isn't too bad right now up here in Santa Rosa but just wait until later this afternoon. Last night looked sad and ominous as the smoke filtered the lowering sun in to a blood red dot. Large ashes continue to rain on my truck like so many snowflakes.
I am reminded of the unnatural sight of so many people wearing masks in conditions such as these last year. If we only knew how predominant mask culture would become only a few months later.
It's official.....Ma Nature is pissed at us.

Besides the smoke, the issue here in the Bay Area is that most of the usual roads are in fire zones. :(

So our smoke is in Idaho or do you have fires of your own?

Smoke surrounded us here in Santa Rosa, clear as a bell today thank goodness so we can open up the house for a bit.

Yeah, I think I'll be working on the bikes instead of riding them this weekend. I was out last year (or was it two years ago, who knows) riding 128 to Booneville to go hit mountain view road and didn't realize there was a fire in the area, smoke got really thick in the valley. Ride was still great but I was coughing and congested for a few days after that, probably best to avoid it if I can.

So true.
My regular West Marin loop is out of bounds. Point Reyes, Inverness and Olema received their mandatory evacuation notices this morning.

It's early.
I just got back from the Safeway on Mendocino. "Surrounded" is right. Looking west and south suggest our "clear as a bell" moments will be short lived.

Too much lean angle...

We ask that coastal traffic be limited to local traffic only. There are very few evacuation routes from west Marin and there are multiple fire resources utilizing the roadways. It is imperative that we leave the roadways open in the event of an evacuation order.

Not even a limited loop of Shoreline/Panoramic :eboy

I was up in the King Ridge/Hauser Bridge area a couple of weeks ago. Those goaty roads are hard enough to navigate on a moto; I can’t imagine getting trucks through there.

Re: places to ride (which is the very least of my concerns right now): it’s uncanny how many of them are in or near fire zones. Skyline/84/9/Pescadero; Skaggs; Berryessa; Calaveras; Morgan Territory; and the list goes on.

Yup, most of the roads that go through the sc mountains are closed or being utilized by emergency vehicles. The few that are still open are being used as evacuation routes. Took OSJ home yesterday and it was a 20 MPH crawl all the way to Soquel. HWY 1 south was a mess with everyone headed out of the mountains.

Whatever that means
Yeah i also wanted to get out there but probably best i don't for a number of reasons.

Well, at least we have the windows open for four hours.

I went to Lowes in Cotati and it was obvious that we would be socked in again just like yesterday and now we are.

But a little break in the AM was nice while it lasted.

We've got several weeks of this...and more dry lightning possible this weekend. :thumbdown

Hopefully lightning doesn't strike the rural cemetery that separates your neighborhood from mine! :nchantr

We’re getting our little break now. All it took was a tiny change in wind direction to make the PM2.5 here plummet from 160 to 5. (I’m following the sensors on purpleair.com )
