I was walking somewhere and I tripped and all 175 pounds of me came down on my toe. It's all purple and it hurts so fucking bad. I took some Tylenol.. I know theres nothing they can do for me at the hospital.. So what would you guys recommend? This hurts like a mother.

I'll go pick up some tape tomorrow. I dont have any tape at all right now. I hope this tylenol pm knocks me out. This is super painful. Haha

Get waterproof bandage tape if you can. If the toe is super bent or dislocated you'll have to try and set it. Might want to consider fashioning a makeshift splint if it won't stay put.

It looks to be relatively straight. I can't imagine touching it right now let alone setting it. If I can get some sleep tonight I'll take a better look at I tomorrow and maybe tape it up with some Popsicle sticks as a splint or something.

with broken toes there isn't much you can do other than tape it up to the next toe. But make sure to put gause or something to adsorb sweat otherwise you run the risk of infection or even your skin fusing together.

Unless it's your big toe, the following:

1. Medical tape to the neighboring, unbroken toe for support. 2. Painkillers.
plus gauze between the toes (don't ask me how I know) is pretty much all you can do. Visiting the hospital or a doc is pointless.

Yes, it is painful, but IME toes heal up pretty fast. Rapid healing to you!

Ummmmm......hospital?

Some people don't have health insurance and can't afford it. :twofinger

I remember the first time I broke my ribs 25 years ago and went to a doc-in-the-box. They charged me $300 for taking an x-ray, a support wrap and writing a 'script. I know when I've puntured something internally. I've broken my ribs and collar bones since then, and all I do now is hit up the supermarket for a Ace bandage and booze. :laughing

It is my big toe. It hurts a lot less today. But it's really bruised. I can move it and I'm not afraid to touch it.. So I think I just sprained it or something.

Big toe sprains/breaks are a painful bitch!

However, unless it's jutting off at an odd angle, taping it to its neighbor should be okay. If it is at an odd angle, you should probably see a doc (big toes are key to being able to walk; those that have had them amputated need special weights to be able to balance, IIRC.)

If you buy your Scooby Snacks off the street or your buddies or wherever, then can cost up to $5/each. Through a doc, maybe $25 for a jar of them. My doc charges about $45 for an office visit plus X-rays, personally, I'm a wuss and go to the doc, but I'm insured too.

It is really swollen on top.. But it appears to be straight.. I'll source some tape and see what happens

It amazes me how people would post on BARF to ask for medical help rather than get professional help.:confused
