Whats in a title?
Sorry it's if this is in the wrong place. The odometer was rolled back and it's sort of a big discrepancy, like 50k more. What should I do? I want to smog it, and am not sure what mileage to give the person.

What kind of car, and how do you know the miles are rolled back? From what to what? Car fax telling you? Smog check mileage different?
I figured this was a problem from 20 years ago and not as big a deal today. With the old analog speedometers, you could just physically roll the miles to whatever you wanted. On the new stuff, you would have to replace the speedometer with a new used one. I'm sure on a lot of the newer bus cars, if the mileage is different on the odometer, than is stored in one of the other computers, it might cause a problem too, but my knowledge of how computer systems works in cars drops off about 10 years ago.

This happened to us when we bought a used Yukon from a local used lot. A year later we found out through the chevy dealership/carfax that it had been reprogrammed to have 40k less miles. After studying the Cf report it was obvious that it happened between the auction yard and the local used car lot. We confronted the manager of the lot and he was unhelpful until we threatened him with a bunch of agency names and also to spread the word all over town and facebook. He ended up giving us a full refund and taking it back.
