I am looking for a dirt trail passage from South Bay to Tahoe Pine (Tahoe Basin)

Is anyone aware of any dirt roads that go the distance from the bay area to the Tahoe Basin that they are willing to share?

Dirt the whole way? Can't do it. From the foothills it can be done and there may be some agricultural roads in the central valley you can try to hook up, but continuous dirt can't be done.

As enticing as the Rubicon is, being that it will be my first ride on the KTM 950 Super Enduro and I am going alone, I will have to save that ride for another day. :rofl

LOL! I would love to hear your impressions of the 950SE after you've logged some seat time. I've considered selling the XR650RSM and replacing it with something else, possibly a 950SE to go alongside my 950ADV. All reports so far are that it's one hell of a bike! :ride

I will tell you about the seat time and my experience before and after I get a Renazco seat.

If you want to go to Hollister with me sometime, I'll let you get some seat time yourself. That way you can make an informed decision.

Isn't the SE pretty much the same thing as the ADV with a bit of different plastic here and there?

A bit smaller, more directly dirt and less "adventure" focused, lighter weight. I'm just in bike buying dreamer mode and frankly the XR doesn't get enough love so my mind is wandering. :)

And Scotty, thanks for the Hollister offer, get the Renazco and put in some saddle time on your own then maybe we'll meet up for a bike swap one day. :)

Edit: Scotty, remember way back when, I bought that 'Priller RS250 body kit off you... :)

There is Foresthill Rd, it's fairly long, but not as long as you are looking for. I'm not sure if any dirt trails tie into it anywhere near Auburn.

From Auburn however you can go quite a ways on it. At least to Soda Springs I believe.

Well, I made a custom route using google maps and my gps. The problems is that google maps does not show which roads have gates, WHICH ARE ALL CLOSED!!!! I was in the area just south of Eldorado NF. Next time I will stilck to the NF and see if I make better progress.

The Eldorado NF just went through one of it's motorized use plans and the place is FUBARed. They closed over 1000 miles of roads and trails when they readily admit that 75% of their users are motorized. That in and of itself is a good topic for an entire thread.

You can go to their web site and download a pdf of the new plan to see what's left. I highly suggest buying the National Forest maps- they will be the most accurate information available.

That's a great road. The top end is all dirt in various conditions. Some is rocky and some has lots of loose dirt. It's a little different every year. No problem for your bike! You can take a road off of Forrest Hill that will bring you all the way to HW50, bringing you out on Ice House road (you will pass the road to the Rubicon) or you can even take one of the smaller roads that lead you farther up 50.

I use to live in Lincoln so I was up there allot, hunting and playing in the dirt. If you want I can map some routes that go threw.

That would be great!!! I am currently up at Tahoe City and planning on taking my bike around the area, if I can find a place to go. Damn Gates are still in the way.

If you want to email the routes to me, please send them to: sstorey@scottystorey.com

Thanks,
Scotty
