Hyperstrada headaches

New resident to the left coast. Santa Rosa now home. Just joined the forum which is so cool to have a localized rider group. I’ve owned my first Ducati (2016 Hyperstrada 939) for a few months now. Leftover purchased in 2018 by first owner. 2700 miles when I bought it!
Have had several issues to the point of in need of a good tech to chase the gremlins away.
Presently, intermittent reluctance to find neutral when stopped. Starter dead when clutch lever pulled in while in gear. Tried various so called solutions with no success. Erratic engine behavior after about 100 miles. Gas tank pressure or vacuum?
Early on, removed the EVAP cannister which vastly improved throttle response from a stop and steady constant speed behavior, until the low fuel light at 100mi.
Again, repair shop recommendations! Thanks!

I'm no repair shop but I can tell you for free... the dead starter problem is the clutch micro switch:teeth

Whatever you do, don't go to any repair shops with the name "Euro" in their name up there.

There's a TSB that might help:
Bulletin Summary: Procedure to check and adjust the clutch fluid pressure - this service bulletin informs dealers and service managers about reports of difficulty in detection of the "neutral" gear (n) with consequent possible engine cranking.

Not sure how trustworthy that info is, try this as well:

Call Marin Speed Shop or Munroe and see if they can help.

I'd love to know how removing your charcoal canister affected throttle response.
Is there vaccum when you open the tank? Did you remove the one-way valve in the lines to the canister -I forget the exact routing on that bike.

Thanks for the links and shop suggestions.
Removing the cannister made the off idle response a huge improvement. Instead of the possibility of stalling, it responds so predictably now.
The electrically activated one way (at least I think that’s what it is) valve in the evap circuit has been plugged. Electrical connector still connected, as per a Ducati forum recommendation.
Haven’t had the bike out since last refill but could not detect vacuum or pressure when I removed the cap.

Got down to completely disassemble the clutch lever switch. A tiny spring, plunger, whatnot. You’d think a simple contact would suffice. Gonna double check continuity before I make a decision.

I had to fiddle with that spring steel piece to get things working with my Pazzo levers. Took a few trys to get the bend right to ensure the switch wasn't engaged with the lever released which caused you to hit a hard rev limit at around 8k, and yet would engage when the lever was pulled to that I could start it in gear if needed.

Fueling on the 939 is pretty bad stock. Initially I thought the suspension was too stiff until I realized all the "bumps" I though I was feeling was the engine stumbling. I'd get some weird hesitation and and then sudden bursts of acceleration when slowly opening the throttle at times. It did seem to get a little more noticeable as the tank got empty.

Bought the Termi T800 and applied a tune to match an upgraded airbox lid / sprinter filter and things are better. I do get some stumbles and misses here and there but I just chalk that up to Ducati quirks.

You can make it work but it's kind of a hassle...I gave up and ordered the switch from Ducati.

I had the micro down to hanging by the two wire. Jumping it with a screwdriver had no effect. Did not strip the wires to the switch so ya think there’s a break in the switch to the wires. Sh*ts getting old!

Mine was shorted inside the switch. I cut the wires and bypassed it but then it would start in gear without the clutch...almost took off on me once while working on it in the garage! lol I got the replacement switch and all is good:).

The final straw. Had the micro switch disassembled down to the wire pins connected to the switch. Jumped them. Nothing, nada, niet. Won’t start in gear. What a statement on Ducati engineering/quality control.
Been riding since before safety oligarchs made these things mandatory. Never crashed because of a side stand down!
