I know the title seems like a no brainer however, wife and I were out for a ride at coast, good food cooooold...I was not dressed for it as bad summer gear so we went back inland. About 90 once into Santa Rosa ish...then Calista got hotter. About 95 ish....wife goes hey next shady spot pull over...oh ok. Next turn was under construction so went about a mile further......she is leaned over and I think why is she looking at my tire? Then she is wayyyy
over so I grab her left leg and she is out. Quick stop from 75 and pull in shade and strip gear....goes out again and crumples. Water, water on back drink more and after about 20 is good. Never has happened before ......I oh thing we can think of her temp is normally lower than most and is now having not flashes and maybe one out her over edge. Jus FYI to hydrate and pull over if overheated tho beat. She is all good BTW

Heat exhaustion is no joke. The wife and I force ourselves to drink no less than a gallon of water each day. We use to kayak fish back home in Texas, on the Galveston Bay. When we first started, we didn't bring enough water to be out in the sun for 6 hours straight and not have access to anything near... We came home tired and both of us had massive headaches. We were suffering a slight heat stroke... That ain't fun and very dangerous. Especially as you get older, you tend to forget to drink water often... Gotta stay on top of it! Buy electrolyte pills and keep them in an emergency kit, they really do help in a pinch.

Wow. :wow
I'm glad this story has a happy ending.
We did a similar loop today starting from home in Santa Rosa and going out to West Marin. Kinda had to dress for all seasons today. Cool, wet and foggy when we left in the morning before getting blasted around by the gusty wind off Tomales Bay. Santa Rosa was toasty hot by the time we got home.
I'm happy to hear your wife is okay and didn't do a tuck and roll off of your bike.

Coming back from the bridge @ Berryessa, summer day, I stopped @ Moskowite corners gas station and soaked my GF's sweatshirt, for the ride back to FF. That smelly tub of water used for checking leaky inner tubes, got her home.

Well done with the situational awareness to keep her from tipping off the bike. +1 to the 'hydrate till it hurts' advice. :D

Props to keeping her safe OP.

A few years back I was heading to Death Valley via Ventura, and over 178. New tire went bad quickly and had to spoon on a new on in Trona. Normally make an effort to stay hydrated but this trip it was beer at night and coffee in the am. Passed out about 20 miles out of trona and pitched the bike 100' down the road until a guard rail brought that to an end. Nurse said I was dehydrated.

I use to down beer like water when I worked construction in my early 20's. Was pissing every 15 minutes. Foreman told us to drink till our piss ran clear :laughing

It wasn't till I started working for safer companies, that I learned there is no substitutions for water. Too much caffeine will give you the jitters and then dehydrate you, alcohol will alter your coordination and dehydrate you, and sugary drinks will make you fat and dehydrate you... Just can't win.

Props to keeping her safe OP.
