How to get a human being on eBay customer service?

I got ripped off on eBay and would like to talk to a human being on their customer service phone line. The numbers I found using google don’t work.

Google found two numbers :

‭1 (866) 961-9253‬

‭1 (866) 961-9253‬

When I call them I get a computer AI answering and no matter what I say or number I input, I can’t get a human being to help. Maybe the AI can’t understand my accent, but the numbers I input to ask for help from a human being don’t work and I get stuck in a loop of the same messages for over 30 minutes. I wonder if EBay does this on purpose to their customers. Does anyone know a way to get a human being on eBay so I can report my fraud claim?

The lesson I learned here is that if the deal is too good to be true on eBay, don’t buy it.

Hmmm, I was able to find five numbers. Which have you tried?

‭1 (866) 961-9253

‭1 (866) 961-9253

‭1 (866) 961-9253

‭1 (866) 961-9253

I assume you used PayPal? Just open a claim with them. If not, file a chargeback with your CC.

I buy a bunch of different things on Ebay, mostly Buy It Now. It's generally a good marketplace for used gear. When you come across a sale that's ridiculously cheap, try and imagine if you yourself would sell the item at that price under any circumstance.

If the answer is no, scroll on.

As far as getting to a human in a phone system, I've generally found that continuously mashing the 0 or * key, or repeatedly saying "agent" will get you to one. The system is trying to prevent you from getting to a human, since a human's time is more expensive than a computer's. But the systems are also designed to fail back to human intervention so that customer service can get done.

I probably sell over $10k a year on eBay. I've had disputes in both directions (won both). I've never been able to find a human to talk to. Both times, eBay contacted me for an interview. Follow the dispute protocols.

I've had an issue ... opened a dispute ... and then under those steps was a way to call customer service, they gave me a number to call and a one time use code to enter.

So just looking for a phone number will not work.

Are you just trying to do a return? Have you started that via eBay?

Oh, one more thing, did the item have the "eBay money back guarantee"?

That is for items that are misrepresented and the seller will not take a return.

So if you bought a size Medium Green jacket and were sent a XL Yellow jacket ... first contact the seller to return the item ... if they will not do that then go the Ebay money back process.

But ... if you got a Medium Green jacket and you just don't like it ... and if the seller said no returns, even with the ebay money back guarantee you don't get your money back (that guarantee is for miss represented items).

I had to go through an ebay dispute a few days ago, the chat function can get you a human pretty quick. Took a few days but ebay gave me my money back and all is good despite the seller being a pain in the ass.

Tried buying one of those Indian made gas tanks for my old BMW, rather unsurprisingly it was complete crap that wouldn't fit on the bike, never would have tried if it hadn't been a listing with ebay guarantee and "free returns" The seller bailed on the return, so ebay covered the cost.

On the upside, after a day or so worth of welding, hammer smashing and bending with a floor jack I have a somewhat useable but ugly tank for free.

Can't even figure out what there game plan is with selling those tanks...they aren't even in the ballpark to fit on the bike.

I've had couple issues over years. It was fastest to click "dispute" button. Then you get to explain your issue and submit documentation. Why bother yakking with an idiot for 30-minutes and end up having to do exact same form-filling and submitting documentation afterwards anyway?

In end, they sided with me in all cases and I got refunded.

I ended up using the online chatbot and filled out the forms. I hope I get my money back. Another lesson I learned is that if the eBay seller has a name that has a bunch of numbers and nonsense letters, that’s another sign that he’s a scammer.
