How NEW do you expect your new tires to be?

I just bought some new tires off eBay. They were manufactured at the end of August 2011. I am happy with these. I found a bunch of info on when to discard tires after they have been in use, but nothing on age of new tires.

How old does a new tire have to be before you pass on the purchase and look elsewhere, assuming they have been stored out of direct sunlight?

Older than 3 years and I won't buy it.

Older than 5 years and I won't use it.

Full msrp I expect no older than 4-5 months. If they're on super sale I don't care. I think it's fair this way. 2 day old bread is cheaper. It's not the same but you can still eat it.
