That made me laugh.

But seriously, isn't IRC kind of an anachronism, or do you folks still use it?

Ahh, the days of mIRC at 9600 baud.

BitchX or xchat on *nix. I was a complete geek and wrote bots in OO Perl, much like infobot but modular and more extensive, and wrote silly scripts and stuff. I had an excuse: I was still a kid, haha. I remember the days of winnuke'ing people on irc for a laugh. Hardy har. I was a script kiddie, but I didn't really use them so much as I wrote them. I just googled one of them and it's funny to see the *.c file with my old "hacker handle" in it on some mit server.

I'm such a knuckle-dragger now, it's great.

It's videos like that one you posted that just remind me why I don't watch TV.

It's funny when technical stuff is portrayed to the general public... but mostly it just annoys me. It's very rare that I can watch a movie that has gun play or any sort of tactical gun fight in it and not get hung up on the stupidity of the whole thing. Just stupid stuff like, "come on you can't take cover behind a cheap church table and not expect to catch a bullet through it", or "that's not what happens when you shoot people there", or whatever. This probably explains why I don't care for action movies. Maybe I should go to bed now, this post is way too long.

Actually, if you think about it, that was the perfect line.

Most people have heard of VB, GUI and IP. About the only three things most people have heard of. Incorporating them all into one line was pure genius :rofl

Eh, the 2nd one is plausible, although it would be doing more work than actually needs to be done.

Plausible?

In order to actually "track" an IP requires the forensic analysis of all servers, ISPs, Proxys, etc. from the target system to the attackers system. Not something you whip up in your VB IDE. :laughing

Not as fast as I look.

I use to have regular "denial of service" overload attacks. I would contact all the isps from the farthest I could track and they would handle it from there. I have tracked THROUGH proxies in Korea, Prague, Romania, etc. Usually these tracks would end in a backdoor hole in some isp's unsuspecting client site.

It is doable. You just need co-operation. :teeth

I used it regularly until 2005, new job and they IT dildos block it.

Oh, and mIRC was for n00bs! IRSSI FTW!

I still use it. Try getting a shell and use irssi... EDIT: I can't read. DUUUURRRRR

HAHAHA

But then the IRC servers I use are private. Nothing like dalnet or anything stupid like that.

I swear, the highpoint of this thread , besides /me slapping greener with a large trout, , is...

"I'll create a GUI interface using Visual Basic" !!!!!!!!!!!!! gaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (an outtake from the second video) No wonder she sounded worried when she said that.. :(

OK. Now for reals. I've done 1200baud. and 2400.

TCK!

I use IRC everyday. It's still big, especially with gamers. I dl shows that are unlicensed in the US from IRC.

I currently use KVirc. Handles downloads like a pro and has a great split screen for notices.
