Why is the corkscrew such a necessary attachment on Leathermans, Swiss Army Knives, and other multi-tools? Do people in the field find themselves needing to remove corks all that frequently? Or is the multi-tool a must-have kitchen accessory?

Once while camping, the only tool we had on hand to open a bottle of wine was a hammer...

We felt extra classy drinking the wine out of the broken bottom half of the wine bottle.

no corkscrew on the Leatherman Wave series. or most of the multitools I've had since I retired my Swiss more than a decade ago.

You should have just beat the bottle against a tree.

My Leatherman doesn't have a corkscrew and my Swiss Army Knife has a phillips head screwdriver where the corkscrew would go. :dunno

Backpacking or mountaineering no, but more and more I go camping in order to lure young women into the wilderness for a night and get them hammered. So yes, I use the corkscrew on my leatherman fairly often.

Fuck off
My Swiss Army knife is probably a good 25 years old and I think I've used the corkscrew to remove a cork once. Its been used a bazillion times but only once for its intended purpose.

Sucks. Took me twice as long to get a good restaurant recommendation out of someone with the screwdriver as compared to the corkscrew.

Winnar, True Romance!

I use mine on picnics occasionally, but they do seem sort of old school. Relics from a time when real men were ready, willing, and able to open and swill liquor at any moment.
