How do you guys clean your dirt bike?

I just looked at my dirt bike yesterday after riding in the mud 2 weeks ago. The mud is all over and dried on pretty good.

Any tips on how to clean it. Can you just spray it down w/ a hose or will that ruin stuff?

Hose it off till ya get all the big stuff of. While it's still wet, spray the entire bike with regular Simple green, not the automotive simple green, the automotive stuff etches metal. Let that sit for 5 minutes or so, then fill a bucket up with strait hot water & liquid laundry soap, grab a bigass sponge & start scrubbing. Rinse it all off with a hose. Allways fire the bike up after washing & let it warm up to operating temp, then shut it off. The heat from the engine & exhaust will help dry out all the under tank stuff.
Then it's chain & filter time..

Power wash. Simple green. Sponge and chain brush. Power wash again. Leaf blower to dry. Run it. :thumbup

Is this thing on?
stuff a rag into the exhaust and keep the power wash dialed down and away from the airbox...if you have a dual-sport with electric bits, use only gently running water (no forceful spray) and + 1 million on the Simple Green...

what do you guys use to clean the chain? Just chain wax and a brush?

Grunge Brush, Simple Green, Chain Lube

(I used to use WD-40 but I was told a Aircraft Mechanic WD-40 eventually attracts moisture-sure enough my chain rusted with WD-40)

Put it on a trailer, or the back of the truck, and sneak into a spray wash car wash station. Then spray it off with soapy water, rinse with clean water, then drive away before they yell at you. Be really carefull where you point the spray, avoid the airbox, exhaust outlet (better to plug this, if you can), any electrics, and bearings (wheel, head, etc) Then you drive it home and clean whats left. of course, if it's plated, (like all good dirt bikes should be), you can ride it there and back.

Don't forget to spray your bike down where the mud will stick (under your fenders, bottom of the motor, etc.) with WD-40 and it will make your bike easier to clean next time. DO NOT get it on your brake rotors, though. :laughing

So it looks like there is some truth to this WD-40 business? I guess I'll have to get a bigger can. :teeth

I've always pressure washed mine when I was growing up. I wish my step dad had stressed NOT to get water in the exhaust a little more tho.. :laughing :shhh

Ja, it's a bad lube. I clean with WD-40 and a grunge brush, wipe it down well with a rag, and lube with Chain Wax.

When we get muddy we hose off while still wet lube chain put in garage for next time. When I dropped my Honda off the tailgate of the truck a lot of mud fell off so that worked too.
