It wasn't tooo bad, just a small dent on the rear of the trailer. It's the principal of the thing.

Best part was she was unlicensed - but I was feeling generous so gathered her information, took the cash and will probably call it good unless I come across something I didn't see looking it over.

Happy to help you out Randy, hopefully you can get that swapped in time for your activities tonight! ;)

Cash is King!
I got a call to pick up a downed Ducati in Vacaville yesterday while I was under a huge time crunch to bale hay...drove the focker home and he didnt even offer to pay for gas. Mighta come out even if someone had rear-ended my old pos trailer.:laughing. It's why I really appreciate you angels:thumbup; I usually don't even offer any more for all the hassles.

You picked up a wrecked bike for someone and they didn't offer you any cash at all? :wtf

Unless they were in shock from the crash, that's pretty fucked.

Yeah, honestly, in terms of rescues -outside of Barf- its been dozens of very fair and honorable people but a a half dozen have all but ruined it for me wanting to to out of my way anymore. It's why I don't do group rides very often these days.

But it is heartwarming when a rescued rider comes here to give heartfelt Thanks and let the people who went out of their way to help them out know that they are appreciated! :thumbup

Obviously you've never actually baled hay LOL - although haying is the one activity that can make just about any beer taste AH-MAZE-ING after a long, hot day!

Plenty of folks and BARFers (Dani included :thumbup) have helped me out over the years - my position may not be great, but if I can start paying it forward even a little bit I'm more than happy to when I can :)

Right on, AJ!:cool
And if Steve offered to help bale hay, he was smart to edit it out.:laughing

Just want to say a HUGE "Thank You!!!!" to AJ... when I spoke with Randy this morning, I told him odds were not in his favor... 6:30am on a weekday, and I was not optimistic... but not even 2 minutes after the mass text went out, AJ was willing to save the day!! :banana

Honestly, every time I send out one of those texts to my volunteers, I'm crossing my fingers, hoping someone's going to come through, and sweating bullets no one will... and it just keeps working. I just love my Angels!!! :love :angel

Playing devil's advocate here. Unlicensed and hit your vehicle? Was she unlicensed because she doesn't have the skills to drive competently (she hit you didn't she?) and she may hit someone else in the near future, maybe one of us? Just wondering.

Unlicensed because she was from Mexico. We had been sitting at a stop light for some time (like over a minute), I'm guessing she accidentally let off the brake and bumped into the trailer.

As for dealing with it, I had two options - get her information, insurance, name, DOB, vehicle, etc, take the cash and get on my way to go pick up Randy OR call the cops and HOPE that she sticks around and her husband (who she called to come to where we were) would quietly wait with me to have their vehicle impounded and keep said BARFer waiting and probably never see a dime for the relatively minor damage? Being that I'm a girl, and was alone at that point, I have no intention of hanging out with a set of complete strangers in hopes that they'll stick around to have their vehicle impounded - and pray they don't take their anger out on me in the meantime.

Nope, I analyzed the situation and was far better off with my course of action.

Useful idiot
Dani: re: offering to pay for gas

I have scooped-up quite a few folks over the past few years. My experience is that most people offer gas money. That said, I had one "rescue" that took about 4 hours and caused me drive about 150 miles. I delivered the rider and the bike to a NICE house in the South Bay. He insisted that I take $20 to cover gas and my time. :laughing

I am fortunate enough to be gainfully employed. I have only accepted gas money when I have been unemployed or when the rescue takes A LOT of time/effort/mileage. It's always fun to see whether or not the person offers, though.

^^^^^honeybadger, seems reasonable. Thanks for helping out fellow barfer also, even if the person didn't even offer to cover at least some of your costs to help. "Class" is a lost concept on some unfortunately. EDIT: Oops my mistake, got ur experience confused with Horsepower's experience mentioned earlier in the thread, again sorry for stepping on any ones toes.

FYI, Randy was MORE than generous and filled my gas tank for me and also topped me off at the drop off spot :thumbup He has no shortage of class!

Dani (horsepower) had the "no offer" pick up from someone completely different!

I was gonna buy breakfast as well, but you got the snacks before we left. :cool

I got the new tire on by about 11:30. There is a minor ding on the lip from the rock, but the bead seat is fine. It balanced out fine and I didn't notice anything odd when I rode it this morning. Would you replace the rim or ride on it?

Hey Honeybadger, my bad. I got your event mixed up with Horsepowers experience where the guy she helped didn't reimburse her, again sorry. I guess that's what I get for staying up so late.

Unlicensed driver, so also uninsured.

:wtf

If you have her details (registration etc) you should report her to the police. This is the type of person that has every incentive not to stop when they cause an accident, or (maybe) knock over a parked bike.
