Come to Oregon, ride 100+ mph and act like an asswipe on our highways and you get to go directly to jail. :afm199

Courtesy Oregon State Police:

A California man was arrested Saturday afternoon by Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers after operating a motorcycle recklessly at high speeds near Gold Hill in Jackson County.

According to Sergeant Jeff Allison, on January 4, 2014 at abut 1:30 p.m., an OSP trooper observing traffic near Valley of the Rogue rest area saw a silver Suzuki motorcycle southbound at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle was checked by the trooper's radar at over 100 mph.

Due to high traffic flow, the trooper was unable to safely overtake the motorcycle but did observe it weaving in and out of traffic in a dangerous manner at over 100 mph. At one point the motorcycle passed a vehicle on the inside median, almost causing a crash.

An OSP sergeant was completing a traffic stop just south of the reckless motorcycle and set up to intercept it. The motorcyclist was stopped near milepost 38 southbound on Blackwell Hill, just south of Gold Hill. The operator, PATRICK WHALEN PARKS, age 21, from El Sobrante, California, was taken into custody by the troopers.

PARKS was lodged for Reckless Driving and additionally cited for Driving While Suspended - Violation, Driving Uninsured, and Expired Vehicle Registration.

He would have been arrested in CA as well. 25 mph over the speed limit can get your bike impounded and you tossed in jail, I think.

The good news is The Oregon State Patrol, did what the California Highway Patrol, hadn't done....

Safe bet, Parks wasn't a model rider/citizen, down here.

We do more than 100MPH on I-5 when Big rigs are in convoy, doing 100, everyone else see's that as a no cops looking, so...pedal to the metal, make tracks.

And this is unusual news? Tell ya what...we all know 5 over with California plates will get you pulled over by OSP.

Dude had it coming riding like that, no matter where he was. And with no license and no plates to boot - C'mon, man! :rolleyes

5 over with any plates won't get you pulled over up here. Hell - 10 over won't. It's asshattery that will. Just based on the OSP presser - I'd have to say young Patrick qualified at a pretty high level as an asshat award winner.

Basic courtesy gets you left alone. Use your signals. Observe lane discipline (keep right except to pass). Keep your speeds to no more than 10 over or as conditions allow (you're big boys and girls, you're on your own on this one). Watch your following distances. Don't cut the big-rigs off when you pass, and don't nuke-em when you do either. (Hint - they have radios and cell phones and they report moronic behavior 'cause they really hate coming up on road blocking fatal accidents.)

Oregon is a big playground. We have tons of amazing roads up here that offer superb riding. Of course, this isn't exactly the best time of year as we do get lots of frost and ice at all levels so riding can offer up some unexpected surprises. But - come spring, summer and fall - we do welcome you guys and gals. Seriously, I love riding in N. Ca. but I LOVE riding in Oregon.

You might welcome us. In my experience, CA plates will get you the stinkeye, more often than not, and shitty comments from quite a few people.

And even with those, he still wont' do more then 5 over the limit

Those 2 are what sent him to jail, coupled with the Reckless. I got pop'd doing 82 in a 55. Nothing more then a ticket and a smile from the OSP officer. Cops are awfully fucking nice up there (seriously). No speech, no bullshit, just a ticket. :thumbup

It Really depends on what area of OR you head into. High Desert, away from the ruined big cities where CA folks drove up the prices of everything, you'll get hospitable people. The larger cities, the "natives" fucking despise CA folk.

This would have been an unique story if he got arrested for 10mph over or lanesplitting.

Anywhere 100mph will get you arrested. If they catch you.

:rofl

I have not been through Oregon where I was not cut off by a big rig on my motorcycle at least 3 times from the border to Medford by some asshat trucker. Going up the grades they don't care what your overtake speed is when they are doing 12 mph and wanting to pass another truck doing 10 mph. They just pop route out in front of you and back up traffic while they take 6 minutes to pass the other truck. :mad I've been traveling up Mt. Ashland where they are 3 abreast at 10 mph jugging up the hill. The truckers in Oregon are idiots. Fuck em'.

As far as getting tickets from OSP, they are not well funded nor staffed these days so you really don't see a lot of them (talked to one and he said the units could be 100 miles apart for back up). One of the most notorious speed traps is Burns Oregon. You leave Nevada where it's 70 mph and cross the border to 55 mph and they are right there generating revenue.

That kind of behaviour will get you jailed anywhere. That being said, I grew up in Oregon and my experience with the general LEO community has been less than favorable. OSP is probably the most professional group, but they are not nearly as professional as CHP. I always liken them to a Roscoe P. Coltrane charachter. Always a Tokyo light show during a traffic stop, Theatrical levels of "I could write you up for...".
I know it's just policy, but the posturing and intimidation tactics that OSP use just suck compared to CHP. I also think the dark colored cars and super sneaky speed traps are lame. Travel on I-5 through Oregon is always a bummer.

Yeah, they do know how to hide. Sneaky bastards they is. Then again, I've had my share of 'where the fuck did HE come' from encounters with Mr. CHiPs too. Which is a really good reason to avail oneself of the magical wonders available on the back roads vs. the dull and boring interstate. Wouldn't you say?
