Hello from Napa and The Koi Father

The Koi Father

Snap Roll
My first post. Thanks for having me. I am of medium experience motorcycle wise I would say. I have ridden motorycles for 50 years starting as a kid on mini bikes, 50's, etc. My stable currently includes a 2005 Concours, 2002 KLR650, and a 1982 GS450S. I have been to one BARF event with my son (i_am_the_koi) James. I hope to participate more. I am interested in local dual sport rides in paticular. Group events too. Again, thanks! :twofinger

Think of it like the Navy you used to tell me about, expect someone to come up and say that you have a pretty mouth, then grab them in the balls and say that they do too.

I have a feeling, these will be your home.

Adventure riding forum. For getting your KLR dirty
http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=112

Group ride forum, for getting miles on the connie for the day.
http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=32

Or for the longer rides, you've got the Sport Touring forum.
http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=67

Couch racing forum, for those cold raceless winter nights when you want to debate who's a better rider.
http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=150

Vintage Cafe forum, for when you want to show off your GS450
http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=154

You could always just go socially to some events and meet some fellow riders with or without your bike too.
http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=33

Stay in the General Moto section, avoid the Kitchen Sink Dark Side of BARF for now. Especially the political threads.

General, for pretty much any news story, accident, interesting farkle, or sought advice you may have.
http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=20

MotoPhotos, for showing off where you've been, what you got, or drooling over others.
http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25

The Garage, again for more specific questions, like if you wanted help mounting those side bags for the KLR, or if you got confused next time you strip down the Connie.
http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=22

Be careful of a couple sections though. The Leo forum is basically for asking Cops direct questions about tickets, incidents, or things you want to know. Don't just post in there with the intent to make fun of, or insult cops.
http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=78

Crash Analysis, for finding out what you did wrong or could have done differently. Not for placing blame but for helping someone out and hopefully preventing a crash in the future.
http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=94

The Kitchen Sink, everything non moto related, and I do mean everything.
http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=2

We have separated just general sink stuff, and politically dividing sink stuff into it's own political forum. Don't go in there unless you enjoy banging your head against a wall, repeatedly.
http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=149

Everything non moto related but in picture or video form has it's own place, the sink pics and vids section. No nudity, no violence against women, period. That is a direct request from Budman, the owner/master/god of BARF. Pretty much anything else that might be something you wouldn't want someone at work to see and judge you on must be linked instead of just posted for all to see.
http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=82

Humor, for jokes, though lately Budman our fearless leader and owner has taken over with his own personal thread.
http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=11

Questions about how to use BARF, the internet, computers, geeky things have their own section so if you ever want to know how to change you picture, or update info, or change something, and I'm not answering you right, ask them.

:newbie and to the madness & the addiction The Koi Father / Koi's dad ! Howdy & good to have you active & posting among us on BARF : da BEST & super active forum. Am so glad you finally joined !! 1/2 a century and you call yourself just medium experienced ??? :shocker The fun and passion must have set in... ... AND it got you hooked HARD, no ?? Make sure you'll be riding ATGATT (all the gear all the time) !!!

Ready ? Here's the official welcome, aka the monster post !!

Nice stable !! Nice Wrangler you got there too !! :thumbup Warm welcome from many BARFers including Koi who did a great job at welcoming ya !! :cool == Yo Koi, long time no see !! How've you been ? Been riding ? :wave --

Happy 2015 !! Make it a GREAT one riding & hanging out with BARFers !!! If memory serves, I think you were at the Meat Up last February ?? I did not meet you personally there but .....

Speaking of which... check out :Group Rides >>> MGR (mellow group ride) <<< no :bs :ride's, some are actually more or lots more advanced and Social Gatherings to meet lotsa CHILL peeps on BARF. :cool One such very cool event is tomorrow : Save the Date! January 11, 2015 - Milpitas - Screening of full-length BARF Pakistan documentary We've got movie nights down ... not in the City but... in the South Bay at either the C12 (Camera 12) downtown SJ or the C7 (Camera 7) at the Pruneyard in Campbell -- right in yer own backyard !! -- Fri or Sun nights, sometimes on Sat nights too. Ride out to meet folks, have dinner, watch a flix !!

There are a LOTs of BARFers in the North Bay and all over the BA ...., so you can join a BARFer or 2 in a low key no pressure ride..., OR... an MGR mentioned above !

You missed it but check out one of BARF BIGGEST "thang" : 2014 BARF RydTher Rally!!! We're had lotsa FUN and the bonding experience was awesome !! But no worries, we'll have our Spring Rally in a few months so.... Pics & vids are posted here : 2014 Ryther Hawthorne Rally Pics & Vids.

Twisties / cool roads around the SF B.A. ? There's Alice (84 & 35), one big bikers' landmark and Hwy 9 & 1, 84, 35, 152, 25 ! Lots more other twisties : Uvas Rd, Mt Ham(ilton) Rd, Mt. Tam(alpais) Rd, Beryessa, RWR (Red Wood Road), and "The Wall" << another Riders' landmark above Berkeley & Oakland Hills with great view of the Bay, looking West? ... and the list goes on....

Good on you to post up a pic of your stable : Kawi, Suzie & the GS cuz you KNOW that peeps woulda asked, right? :teeth I have a post on top of this thread about posting pics & vids on BARF : How to post up pictures and videos on BARF

Don't know how familiar you already are with the forum layout, various sub-forums but... here's a "road map" for yer tank bag that ( the same welcoming spiel I give to ALL ) :

Check out the Vintage Cafe sub forum ! I betcha you'll love it ! If you wrench or wanna learn how to wrenc, Moto Shop (used to be in South City -- I talked to Wilder and met Aleks there) is a great place for you to hang out. They are a BARF sponsor and they just moved to Potrero Hill in the City. You can bring your bike there to work on with their tools, etc.

Also check out : 1Rider, Training, Garage, Adventure Riding, Sport Touring / Cruising, Trackdays, Trackdays for sale, Parts for Sale, Parts Wanted, ... and the stickies on top of this sub-thread 'Newbies' as well >> will save ya lots of time and energy and make sure you start / continue riding ATGATT ! At times, free gear could be had under Riding Gear , else they are very reasonably priced!!! ;) >>> jacket, riding pants, gloves, boots, lids, 1pc, 2pc .... <<< You can start collecting or continue to amass more .... gear !!!! :laughing

As to gear, take advantage of all the moto gear shops in SF and all over the BA to go in to try on for size and comfort (jackets, riding pants & lids). To name a few : the D-store (Dainese store) & Scuderia West in the city; CG (Cycle Gear) all over the BA; Road Rider in SJ and Santa Clara Cycle in Sunnyvale. Nobody minds if you walk around the store with a lid on to get a feel for comfort and fit. Ask lots of questions to the staff about gear. :afm199

I like General (Anything and everything to do with motorcycles.) >>> good stuffs and Kitchen Sink (If you're not sure where to post, post here) >>> entertaining stuffs :teeth

Read up some posts, be active, join a ride, even create your own ride (with time and route) and post it up in Group Rides. :afm199

IMPORTANT: If you need help on the road >>> post in 'General' and BARF Roadside Angels will come to your rescue !! Connie / Gixxergirl1000 is our BARF Roadside Angel Leader.

Please ALSO refer to BARF Terms Of Service (the blue hot spot at the top right of this BARF screen -- next to "Donate" and also at the bottom right of this very post in my sig or click here : T.O.S.. -- or any mod's sig) to be familiar with forum rules. One such rule: newbies are NOT able to post in the Classifieds during the first 30 days of joining.

Oh... the "SEARCH" key can be useful to look for information in this forum ! It's the last hotspot top right of the screen or click here >>> Search

Don't hesitate to ask questions in the forum or via PM ( private message ). :twofinger

If and when you are in the market to get a ride, you might benefit from a fellow BARFer's bike : Moto for Sale. CL (Craig List) has lots of bikes for sale, just be careful of scams on there : NEVER pay with a money order and it would be good to check out your bike with someone in the know, a BARFer or a friend ! I would also check out all local motorcycle dealers, sit on and feel how comfortable I'd be on various different bikes! Lots of bike dealers in the City, the Peninsula, the East & South Bay !!!

Cheers, see ya out there :ride SAFE with a :teeth and :wave

Gerard / CG :cool

Car under the cover is a one of a kind prototype. Details unavailable due to current patent requests. I can say its powered by a form of transition capacitor and at 88 mph weird things happen.

Just as I thought.

A Chevy Vega. :laughing

Close, Chevy is correct :thumbup

Been his pride and joy since he bought it in '89.

Well, at least until he bought his Concours and KLR.
