Back in the day, my ‘72 Yamaha DT2 250 MX had a compression release. I think that is pretty similar.

^^^This. They were quote common. In a few years no one will be around to remember this or a whole lot of other stuff.

An exhaust brake is not a compression release. Think of a Jake brake.

I had to look that up.
Compression release back in the day just opened a valve in the cylinder head, slowed the bike and made a cool noise. Today they are used to help start thumpers, I think. My Black Dream has one. I have not used it.

Used to be pretty much standard on flat-trackers, don’t know if they still run them but great for no-brakes decel.
