Harley pulling out of India, stopping Sportsters to Europe

I have a buddy in India who has a Harley, so I'll have to ask him what he thinks about this.

But I think it's mainly that they are not suitable for the market, which is mostly cheaper Asian bikes. Just like every other Southeast Asia country there are motorcycles everywhere, but not a lot of expensive bikes.

They should have bought a local brand or done a joint venture and developed it vs dropping the same big, expensive cruisers into this very different market.

Weren't they going to sell a 350 cc bike based on a Qianjiang or something? Did that get the axe? I thought they were going to slap a Harley badge on something and sell them like hotcakes over in SE Asian. I figured that would be pretty easy income because they'd pretty much just be licensing out their brand.

Rolls with it...
I almost thought this was a desiD thread... :laughing

I would have to imagine a big H-D would be a status purchase in India when compared to other brands that are available there.

The Market over there dictates cheap bikes...... That's about as simple as it gets.

What's going on?

I thought that they were on fire in India and the sportster is their most approachable model

Only the rich can afford those in India. Also those bikes give a negative impression. If we see someone riding HD, we think they are a rich snobby guy.
