I stopped by the Lady Bird Johnson Grove. Good thing I needed a bathroom break and they had one of them pit toilets there. Also I used up all my chain lube so I chucked it in the garbage there. The hike is 1.5 miles I hiked up to the #3 (self guided tour thing) tree and turn around. Amazing large trees in California for sure. I have ridden though like thousands of miles of forests in the past days and I have to say none of the trees I saw compares to California Redwoods! The funny thing is had actually remembered that I rode this rode many years ago on that trip with friends. I was looking for a "dual sport" road that was on the Buttler Map and the road going to the grove was very steep and twisty. It was rough too so perfect for the DR! I was just remember it as I was riding back down. I should have probably tried to look for that road. I saw and heard several logging trucks going down this road also so that dirt road was probably used for logging. Bummer next time but I gotta get home.

I see some cars stopped on the side of the road and wonder why and it's because a herd of elk were hanging out here.

When I get to Avenue of the Giants I get to ride through it again. I rode through it last year during the Lost Coast Dual Sports Event. Highly recommend you check it out. It parallels the the 101.

I was tired so I take a break and I stopped by this place called the Grandfather Tree. It is this 1800 year old tree pretty awesome. I realized I hadn't bought any souvenirs on this trip so I bought a bunch here related to the Redwood state park and the 101 coastal highway. I didn't see this during Lost Coast Dual Sport because we took a dirt route.

I also stopped by this cafe that had a log cabin made from a single log next door. Notice there is an electrify America charger next to it also. It's not functional yet.

So darkness has fallen. I make sure and put all my sniffle gear because it'll be cold. Had to ride much of the Redwood Highway in the dark. My lighting setup is actually very good. I find it better to just follow a car through the darkness though. So i don't have to keep turning on and off the high beam or off road light.

So after what seems like FOREVER I arrive in Ukiah and take a break. I'm so tired and I still have like 100 miles left to go. I finally gas up. I had been putting in 1 or 2 gallons at small town because the gas was expensive. I nearly rode 300 miles on the gas in that tank + the extra 3 gallons I added. That Acerbis tank goes the distance! I go to the In and Out and eat it outside on the table because you can't eat inside at this one. There was one in Nevada they did let you eat inside.

Then I set out for the last 100ish miles left to go. I was hurting pretty bad by this point. I could hardly grip the throttle. I need to invest in a good throttle locking device for rides like this in the future. Or get a bike with smoother engine. I made it to Oakland and I was falling asleep, it was midnight already. I was determined to make it home in one day I was determined to sleep in my bed tonight! I stop at this gas station in the nice part of Oakland near Berkeley. I stop and rest and get a Monster to wire me up for the last leg. I also charge my Sena because it died need my tunes. So I head out and I feel somewhat refreshed and make it home around 0100. Park the bike and that was the end of the my 2nd TAT Journey!

I rode exactly 500 miles that day from Port Orford, Oregon to San Jose, California. Total adventure miles 2901 miles! Last fill up was 117 miles ago at Ukiah BTW.
