Following the direction of this guy:

I did this. I'm using the iMove app (which only shows speed/distance/time/altitude, gps stuff - ignoring the smart phone accelerometer altoghether), but I emailed the guys at at EatSleepRide mobile app and they may be thinking about exporting GPX files.

The Garmin app is amazingingly simple. Lots of gauges, even for including things like heartbeat. This would be amazing in the most thrilling rides!!! :twofinger

For now I'll be happy to add inclination data. Maybe with the Apple iWatch, one single .gpx file will include everything, from heart rate and body temperature to inclination, G-force (for braking and acceleration) to whatever else sensor the iPhone has. Garmin has to have it all, it seems, including lap times.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers.

Interesting! The video showed him using data from his Garmin, a device I do not have.

I assume you used your iPhone to collect data. How did you export the iMovie app? And how did you time your data with your GoPro video?

The iMove app sends data via email.

Syncing app and video is the hard part - there are tools on the app for moving gps time up and down. You have to start app and camera together to make it s bit easier. Also, if phones loses data coverage ( for maps) or gps, it's plots average speed on a straight line. I'll try my wife's Garmin swimming watch and see if I can add more stuff to it, like heart rate or body temp.

probably referring to the accuracy of the speedometer in case you got caught for speeding while recording?

You can calculate speed just by timing two reference points in any video at any speeds.

Speedo display is optional. I just put it there to compare GPS speeds with bike algorithm speeds. It's interesting, until GPS signal at times is lost, but then you know.

Why worry about what happens in court? To use video as defense, I'd never edit it. A stupid video you simply don't post it.

I've seen people accelerate video playback to mask real speeds. Guess what, give. Any junior forensic expert can still tell what you did and if not, just time how long it takes for a reference point to disappear from screen, like two lamp posts. Simples.

Thanks Sandro, that was cool. Wicked fast acceleration at 1:47!!! If you really get into the biometric data you could probably wire up a strain gauge to some kind of a plug to measure pucker factor. This IS barf. :laughing

the EatSleepRide app has that data but it won't save a gpx file. They're looking into it after I send them an email. If more people do it, they might release it soon. They are the first ones to comment on my video and they also tweeted it. Nice.

I just use the Garmin camera so no screwing around with exporting GPX etc.

That said, the Garmin software is kinda crappy even though the gauges are cool.

hmmm... I might be putting my etrax (I think it's called) on my bike to try this

edit: have you tried acceleration/braking gauges? What do they look like, and how much lag is there?
