Saw it last night. Wanted to like it, not even butt hurt they remade it

Terrible. Just not good. Felt extremely forced. Terrible acting and dialogue. Felt totally trapped by the anime, and this trapped in the 90's, in fact everything about the movie felt like what you would make if you were gonna parody the classic 90's tropes.

Def not recommended

Ghost in the Shell blew me away when I saw it in elementary school. Back when it first came out.

After seeing the trailer for the live action thing... Yeah. No thank you. Hard pass.

Meh, it was OK.
Just had to go in with expectations it will be different from Anime.
Overall it was mediocre, and some of the plot points made no sense.

The problem is they didn't do a good job filling in some if the backstory, or philosophical questions.

im going to see it tomorrow night. i have high expectations but i know that the movie wont live up to them.

one thing ive heard is that its basically a prequel to the original movie. that sounds cool and i can get into it building on the preexisting world rather than trying to revamp the original.

also, i guess i have scarlet johansson tattooed on my side now :laughing

I don't go to theaters anyways, but too bad they screwed the pooch on this. Not because it was GITS, but because if it fails, Hollyweird will be gun shy about making movies from manga and anime source material, which will suck, because there are a lot of original and interesting stories there. Edge of Tomorrow was a Japanese light novel called All You Need is Kill, which should have been the title of the movie. The movie was actually good BTW, but the peeps at the studio blew it by NOT using the books title, and not understanding how to market it. In this instance (GITS), I blame the director and writers. The director seems to have only done Snow White and the Huntsman, which was a mediocre piece of drivel that had enough star power to push it over $150 mil. But obviously, with GITS thrown in, his abilities border on pedestrian. And the writers have zero background in dealing with this type of material, so I can see where they did nothing but crib the script from the source. I so want to see Ajin as a live action movie, but the odds just keep going down.

I don't think it's a prequel. I think in GITS movies Major had different background, and last year they released GITS anime which was the prequel to original. It loosely tied in to the GITS universe.

I was hoping for a live-action Akira someday, maybe even Evangelion. :(

My choices would also include Appleseed and Berserk (along with a bunch of others haha). I drool over the thought that if all the comic book shit that is now main stream cinema can get there, then there's hope that anime and manga can make the leap as well. The live action Attack on Titan wasn't bad. It was a kinda low budget Japanese effort, but good enough to watch and enjoy for what it was. And Attack on Titan season 2 has just started, so hell yeah.

Like the Animatrix was suppose to bridge the gaps in the follow up films to Matrix, but not too many people saw it, so were like :wtf when the sequels came out.

Wasn't Pacific Rim basically a live action of Evangelion? :laughing

The Mecha part maybe, but Eva is a bit deep in it's psychological and emotional stories. But if they DID do Eva, it would probably look a lot like Pacific Rim, but during the day and with nice weather.

That is certainly true, EVA was more then just Mecha, bit as GITS, Ender's Game, and others have shown Hollywood is incapable of capturing it. Unfortunately. So if they actually do live action EVA it will be as you said Pacific Rim during the day and nice Weather. :laughing
