Getting back into the dirt in the Bay Area

Looking to get back into dirt bikes. Miss riding around on the hills and eatin lunch underneath the tree. Only problem is I don't have a truck, so getting all the way from Berkeley to Hollister seems impossible. Is there any rider groups out there I can car pool with? Is that a thing? If not, is it a good idea to start one? Total flop? Let me know what y'all think.

Would love to hear what you guys think, maybe barf already has a cool dirt club
Would love to find out more about the dirt scene in the bay. Are theyRe any secret trails in Tilden/wild cat that allow dirt bikes??

All the best :ride

what kind of car do you have? Does it have a hitch? Or can you put one on it? Trailer an option? Or possibly a bike hauler?
Lots of paces to ride other than Hollister fyi.. Lots

There's no legal riding in Tilden. But Metcalf isn't that far away. And like was said, you can tow a small trailer with just about any car. I used to tow my bike with a Cabriolet. My friend just put a hitch on his Golf to tow his race bike on a trailer. But you should be able to meet people here that live near you that dirt ride.

As a temporary trailer you can use U-hauls 4x7. They are beefy but my Prius can tow one with a motorcycle in it no problem. ~35 mpg while towing :laughing

I second this. I installed a hitch on a Mazda 3 for about ~$100 and then would rent a trailer from uhaul.

Thanks fellas. I have a little '96 civic hatchback, so probably not the best but I'll look up its towing capabilities and see if I can mig a hitch on. I can't see any places to bolt something on.

Where else do you recommend? Just heard about metcalf, so I'll be checking that place out. Sj isn't that far away for me(much better the hollister) but still an hour and a half +.

I'm not aware of any dirt only clubs in the immediate Bay Area. But a lot of both the OaklandMC and SFMC members ride dirt. No formal dirt "pooling" to my knowledge.

Like already posted, your Civic could easily pull a small trailer and dirt bike. Carnegie or Metcalf is closest, lots more riding areas within 2+ hrs. Camping is part of the dirtbike experience. :thumbup A few MX tracks within an hours range.

Lots of opportunities here and elsewhere to meet folks who ride dirt. Get a bike and start meeting folks.

Anything will tow a dirtbike on a small trailer.

There is Carnegie in Livermore. I think it is about the same travel distance as Metcalf if travel from Berkeley.

Thanks guys. I was hoping I wouldn't have to get a trailer but it's much more affordable then a good truck.
I'm much more into trail riding vs. mx, are there trails at Carnegie/metcalf?

Carnegie has enough trails to keep you busy for years. At all levels as well. Metcalf, while smaller has lots of trails too. Hollister dwarfs both of them. Get a trailer and go have fun.:thumbup

Yeah I just abandoned my Rabbit in favor of a Tiguan so I can put my dirt bike on a hitch carrier- don't want to tow a trailer.

There is a ton of riding - Metcalf is close to where I and a few others live, when you're ready lmk and I'll get a group day set up.

always down to go ride

Hi Adam. I live in Sebastopol and am always looking to go ride with someone. I usually go down to Hollister because I can link up with random people to go ride with, but would like to go ride closer to us. I've been up to penny pines a couple of times, but would prefer to ride with a "buddy" in those areas. I have a pick up and can drive or chip in for gas anytime.

P.S. it's raining !
