It is ok to pay more for a bike that has had all of the maintenance work done to it recently, or pay less and get a bike that needs some work, but you must know this in advance and be ok with it.
    • Inspecting the bike: if you are not experienced yourself, have a mechanic or an experienced friend check the bike before making a purchase. Crashed bikes:This is even more important if you are buying a bike that is being sold at a cheaper price with damages that the buyer is required to fix. In these cases, doing a frame check that will show any frame/fork/geometry damages is HIGHLY recommended. Do NOT simply rely on the information that the seller is providing, even he/she may not be aware of all the problems. Have the crashed bike checked and know what you are getting into.
    • Clean title, Salvage title A clean title doesn't mean the bike is free of serious issues. A Salvaged title doesn't mean the bike may have any problems. Every case is different. Some bikes are seriously damaged in a crash, but an insurance claim is never made on them, so they still have a clean title. Some bikes have had mostly cosmetic damages in a crash, but the insurance company decided to pay off the bike and salvage the title rather than spending the money to fix it. Know what you are getting into and don't make any assumptions based on what the seller is telling you.
    • Registration: Know about the current registration status of the bike. Check with DMV if you have any questions about any possible back fees and other title/registration questions (out of state title, no title with bill of sales only, etc.) before purchasing the bike.

FS: 2001 SV650 Race/Track Bike

Is it summer yet?
2001 SV 650. Unknown mileage but I don't think it's too great. I always thought it was a 2000 till I just looked at the frame 11/01 build date. :D

Good: Runs great. Penske shock, 2003 Gixxer 750 forks revalved by Zoran. Set up for a ~200lb rider. Had the 2003 cam swap that's popular, rejetted to work with full M4 exhaust, Scotts Damper, Vortex rearsets, Marchenisi magnesium front wheel, F3 rear wheel, Brembo race master cylinder with new Vesrah pads with two trackdays on them. Veypor digital tach/ speedo, though just the tach is hooked up. Gixxer body work with superbike tail which really helps the long legged. Best handling bike I've ridden.

The bad: front fork seal weeping, not bad but should probably be replaced, valve cover leaking a little bit of oil but bike should probably have valves checked/service anyhow. Tank has dents, the bike is no beauty queen. :teeth Tires have lots of tread but should still be replaced.

Comes with a Baxley chock, a spare blue gas tank, and may even throw in a Pit Bull front pin stand. And don't worry, rat stickers peel off. Looking to get $2k for all. Willing to deal but don't be stupid about it :D, the tank, chock and stand are like $400 all by themselves. Sold on a bill of sale as it's just a track bike. It makes me really sad to sell it, I LOVE this bike, but reality is what it is and it bums me out looking at it just sit.
