I know this isn't the subform for this, but I figured I'd get more views here.

I'm not riding anymore for various reasons and I haven't had any takers on my old ST, so I'm offering it for free to a good home. Note that this bike is NOT for anyone who's not a good wrench. It does need some work but it's fundamentally very sound. And though it's got well over 80,000 miles on it, that's nothing for an ST. They can go 200,000 miles or more if properly maintained. It's also got ABS and makes an excellent commuter bike.

So, if you're good at spinning wrenches, have a look:

Note: I'm in San Jose and while the bike was last running last summer, it's currently not running. It may be simply that it needs more gas in the tank. If that isn't it, I could try draining the fuel (it has Stabil in it) and putting fresh fuel in if someone wants to hear it run.

my brother had a '91 model. great bike. I used to call it "the super tanker" because of the large fuel tank and range. Handled very well at Laguna :thumbup

Thanks. But it's really more of a necessity. No one wanted to buy it at any price. It's still an excellent ride and last time I rode it on a regular basis, it performed better than new. I remember chasing an AFM racer friend of my brother's down Jamison Creek road and I was stuck to his ass, riding the front wheel the whole way down. I'd like to see the old girl back on the road again so giving her away seemed the best choice.

Sad to hear you will not be riding, hope this is only temporary. I have gone from my '93ST to a '03ST1300 to a '12K1600 and now a '16 Multistrada. There is an MY-MC the old days group on FB. Check it out you will see some of the old guys from the ST1100.org and My-MC.com groups.

Hope you are doing well

This is an extremely cool offer, if not somewhat heartbreaking.
I'd love to throw my hat in the ring, I could give it a great home...but I don't want to pile on.
If you don't get any offers you feel comfortable with please consider me. My kids are concerned I will become the moto equivalent of the crazy cat lady.
I am doing nothing to dispel that concern.

To OP or anyone interested: I'm also in San Jose and would be willing to help transport if moving it is a difficulty for interested parties.

FYI, I used the DMV fee calculator and tried it as a gift and as a purchase, value being 50 bucks. Here's what I got:

Current Registration: 55.00
Current California Highway Patrol: 25.00
Current Vehicle License Fee: 9.00
Current Motorcycle Safety Fee: 2.00
Current County Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies Fee: 1.00
Current Fingerprint ID Fee: 1.00
Current Abandoned Vehicle Fee: 1.00
Current Air Quality Management District: 6.00
Current County Transportation Projects Fee: 10.00
Alt Fuel/Tech Reg Fee: 3.00
Current Vehicle Theft/DUI 2: 2.00
Current Transportation Improvement Fee: 25.00
Transfer: 15.00
Use/Sales Tax: 5.00
City Vehicle Use/Sales Tax: 1.00
Current Registration Penalty: 10.00
CHP Penalty: 10.00
Current Vehicle License Fee Penalty: 1.00

Total Registration Fees: $176.00

Total Use/Sales Tax: $6.00

Grand Total Registration Fees: $182.00

Subtract 6 dollars if a gift.

I had no idea the state screws us in so many ways.

The last registration card I can find for the bike (I keep it on the bike) expired in 2010 and since I'm not getting hit with a bunch of penalties and back registration fees and taxes, I have to assume I'm correct in thinking I registered it as non-op.

For those waiting to see if you've won the lotto, there have been a few more showing interest in the bike. I'm mulling things over and hope to have an answer by end of day. I hope. I'd like to see the old girl back on the road again. She deserves it. She's saved my ass a couple times (ABS). And she only ever let me down once when she fried her VRR. To her credit, it was likely a 100 mph run heading into Moscow, Idaho in 110 degree weather combined with stop and go for miles in 115 degrees that did it. (And they were prone to getting fried anyway.) I fixed her up with a new and upgraded alternator and she's been happy ever since.

I would expect, also, to spend some time with the new owner, explaining some things about the bike and the modifications I've made.
