From SacBee.com:
"A 49-year-old El Dorado Hills woman died of head injuries she sustained Wednesday when her motorcycle hit a center median and crashed in Folsom.

It is not known why the woman's motorcycle, which was traveling east on Iron Point Road at Cavitt Drive, struck the median.

Folsom police spokeswoman Michelle Beattie said there were no other vehicles around the motorcyclist at the time of the accident, which occurred about 7 a.m.

Speed and possible sunlight glare are being investigated as factors in the accident.

The motorcyclist, whose name was not released pending notification of family, was wearing a helmet. But the impact was so severe that the helmet cracked, said Beattie."

Re Tired Not Dead
Helmet cracked? What are the chances of a genuine 'non protest' style DOT helmet 'cracking'?

Just sayin'

RIP rider.

Have no idea if this applys, but, something that just chaps my parts that chaps don't cover, is the "was wearing a helmet" statement or note in a report.

I can't help but think it was a novelty helmet that never should be called a helmet in the first place.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all about the best helmets and every piece of protective gear that can be had.

If there was a beanie/novelty helmet in this, though, and it played the part in her being a fatality, and the accident report says "was wearing a helmet", it gives helmets a bad rap as, not being useful.

Course an impact that cracks a helmet, may of been too much for any helmet to decelerate the brain.

The identity of the 49-year-old motorcyclist was not immediately available. She was wearing a full helmet at the time of the crash, police said.

or so said the link

Regarding the helmet - I don't feel there was negative spin towards helmets put on the story. They actually took time to mention that the "impact was so severe that the helmet cracked" which doesn't mean the helmet wouldn't help in a situation with a lesser impact.

Saw it on the news there not sure what happened and speculated sun in her eye's and there was a full face helmet in the shot by the bike which didnt seem too damaged the helmet looked like a KBC.

Somebody on another board said they've released the identity of the rider. Apparently she was a very experienced rider with many miles logged on that bike. She was wearing FULL gear and a DOT full face helmet. ...not sure how credible this statement is, however.

Seems to me the "sun in the eyes" statement just doesn't gut it for a rider with as much experience as she allegedly had... possible hit and run? Who knows? Apparently there were no witnesses.

Its hard for some of us to realize that even DOT gear doesn't do a whole lot when spearheaded into solid objects at speed. Theres alot of plain ol' luck...good and bad, regardless if your helmet is DOT or not.
