Fix Door??

Hello,

Need some suggestions on either fixing my patio door or replacing it with a new one. The current door has a screen in the middle and used to have a glass. Well the glass broke and is now inside the door panel. I like the current door because when the glass was there, it brought in sunlight and looked good in general. I went to home depot and picked up a flexi glass and tried to install it but gave up on that shit as i'm not handy. My contractor friend said to replace the entire door which i don't want to do unless i absolutely have to. So my questions are:

1) Replace the door?
2) Fix the current door with a glass panel? (any recommendations)
3) Any other suggestions?
4) Is someone handy that has a suggestion and wants to take this on?

Thanks,
Ren

Replace the door.

While everything is a matter of perspective, mine is that your current one is not so attractive.

Cycle61 is a good handyman but his schedule is fairly booked.

Replacing the glass in the door is easy. My roommate accidentally head butted ours with his helmet. $50 or so for a piece of tempered single pane and all was good.

Your door is ugly and needs paint.

There is a used/reclaim door and window spot in San Mateo. Lots of awesome replacement wood doors for cheap.

1. What is this Tunnel of Death that I'm looking at in the photo? :wtf:laughing

2. Call a glazier and text them that photo. They should be able to tell you feasibility and costs associated with fixing your hinky door.

That door has sentimental value! :twofinger

I just put a piece of wood up for now to cover where the window was. That's the extent of my handywork. If i fixed the door then yes painting will be done.

Paint is easy. $7 for a gallon of exterior on the OOPS/mistake counter at Home Depot...gotta be ok with their colors though.

My question is are you ok with the noise of rattling broken glass in the bottom of the door? Putting a piece of glass in isnt a problem. Probably could find a replacement on craigslist with a window. No the size? Looks like a 32".

:rofl x2

Yeah, looking at that... er, why does The Shining keep coming to mind? Um, entryway... I'd personally hire some overpriced blacksmith, (coughcough) to make a door that matched the railings, and have the whole thing done in stained glass, or (you cheap bastard) plexiglass. :laughing
