Fire!

Its Dethklok!
Got woken up in the middle of the night by my dog barking. I looked outside and thought I saw fire flies but realized is was a fire burning. I live next to a heavily wooded creek and the embers were flying. I ran outside, called 911 and turned on the hose. The fire was burning on the school property that's next to me. The property they refuse to maintain citing budget cuts. I hope this is a wake up call to them because I'm going to start rattling cages come monday morning. It is a fucked up feeling of helplessness to be standing in your pitch black backyard in the middle of the night wearing only shorts holding a hose and praying for the fire dept. to whom I am very thankful for. This could have been really bad.

Rolls with it...
Any idea what started it?

Time to go to a school board meeting or 2, with print outs of these pics, and get it on record that if they don't take care of it, it may cost them much much more because that tired trope of "budget cuts" is BS when it comes to this kinda stuff.

Feel free to contact the local press as well, and if you have a communication like a letter or e-mail from the District, share it with them.

You can see by the pics that its pretty thick back there but I could swear that when I was on the phone with 911 that I could hear voices and people running. But I did not see anyone and no homeless camps.

Elementary school at 2:30 am. I'm leaning towards tweekers.

Yeah, kinda late for elementary school tweekers, more of a time for middle schoolers....

I'd start peppering a group consisting of the principal, the district facilities director, the superintendent, and school board members (all of them, not just the one that represents your area) with e-mails, pics, and follow-ups. It sounds like a school safety issue as well.

Fire marshal for your jurisdiction might help. You can report it to your city / county as blight also.

So thankful nothing worse happened. The school needs to take accountability for not clearing the land IMO. What if something like this happened during school hours, etc. (What about the children!!!!) and Westie and his family and the neighborhood too.

I think you're good. With this on record as happening, if they don't start taking care of it now, it will be clear gross negligence if it happens again. That creates a big damages amplifier if anyone ends up having a claim. If you want to be really thorough, send everyone (school board, principal, etc) a letter notifying them of this.
