Finding the best mattress...what say you BARF?

KHAAAAAN!
Looking for a new mattress. No need for a box spring because trying to keep the squeaking down. :laughing

Both of us are side sleepers.

Went to our local money laundering store, Mattress Firm, and laid on a number of beds.

We do like this one and the idea of a hybrid bed.
https://www.mattressfirm.com/sealy/hybrid-premium-silver-chill-14-inch-plush-mattress/mfi134720.html

On sale for $1799.00

However, looking for other ideas. Don't want to drop that much on a mattress unless we have to.

Local furniture store had a Spring Air Muirfield EUROTOP mattress we liked and it was $1,459 and 35% off for a price of $948.35 before tax. We liked that one too.

Just looking for other suggestions.

Stearns and Foster beds kick ass. I just got rid of mine when I moved because it was 10 years old. But $1280.00 is a kick ass deal. I should see if they have them at the Costco up in Oregon.

Yeah it was a really good deal and I'm very happy with the firmness. It just took them to the very end of the 4-6 week period to actually deliver it ;)

I also bought new sheets and an expensive duvet and I sleep very well.

I've found all of the modern mattresses make me sweat to some extent. All of "cool gel" stuff, while I won't say it's nonsense, it hasn't been necessarily accurate for me.

Mattresses are just a real pain to experiment with.

Bought one in March this year. Super sensitive to temp changes. The best thing is to get quality covers and sheets for the matress and pillows that don't allow heat to build up. I ended up with a beautyrest. With everything out the door it was about $2800. Guy told me it will take a while to soften up. After the first few nights I thought it was going to have to go back. Then covid hit and I couldn't do the return. So I kept sleeping on it. After about 6 weeks it was perfect. Very happy with it. Last mattress was 10 years. This seems like it will go much longer.

Tuft and Needle is the shit!!!

Mattress in a box. A lot cheaper than those mattress store rip offs and SUPER comfortable. I bought mine about three years ago and I LOVE IT. I would totally buy another one when the time comes. Best mattress I've ever slept on.

Been doing a lot of research on mattresses and there are a few things that are pretty universal.

1. ALL beds in a box are crap...or they will be in a few years when the foam starts breaking down.

2. Your best buy for long lasting and comfort is NATURAL latex rubber.

3. NO polyurethane foam.

4. Now you have to decide between Dunlop or Talalay.

I have by the numbers I bought like 7 years ago. Still like it. I can have one firmness, GF can have another. No real issues with it being hot.

As far as them breaking down and getting uncomfortable or something, yeah, time will tell. I'm very happy with mine after 3 years, and the T&N mattresses have a 10 year guarantee.

Can't say enough about Flo-Beds in fort Bragg. Ours is 20 years old and is like new, no sags or depressions of any kind. 100% pure latex, custom firmness and free exchanges for a few months. They have a removable mattress cover to allow airing out.

I suggest avoiding polyurethane/memory foam as it is low level toxic.

this is where I got my latest mattress, the previous one from them lasted 27 years. They are expensive but have a wide variety of firmness.

I'm a side sleeper also and went for a very soft bed, the goal being that when I'm on my side my spine is straight.

We got the Purple mattress in a box a year ago. So far it's outperformed my old Sealy posturepedic and subsequent Casper. The selective firmness is quite something, and my SO no longer complains of overheating in the night.

No degradation yet but I'm sure that could change in the next 5 years. Maybe I'm a little ocd about cleanliness, but keeping a mattress for much longer than that doesn't sit right with me.

I'm on a sealy black and I agree.

FWIW, I was told by a friend in the mattress industry to buy the firmest one you can get and then put whatever topper you want on it. I went Sealy Black with a feather topper a few years back. It took a few months to break in and I expect to get about 15 total years out of it.

TL;DR
I did a lot of mattress research years ago and went with a 100% latex foam mattress because it was inexpensive, said to last longer and was drop shipped in smaller box compressed. Some assembly required.

I forget the brand, but I found it super comfortable. You can order the firmness and make one side different than the other. If I take off all the bedding, I can smell the foam, but I dont notice this at other times. That is the negative.

This sounds like a Flo-Bed but does not smell like one!

After years of experiment, my fave is a fairly expensive futon mattress with a layer of memory foam. I'll get another year or two out of it. The good ones, for me, last 15 years or so. Turned regularly.
